That’s the basic thrust of a headlining column in “Saturdays Down South” yesterday.
Forbidden by his agreement in stepping down at LSU that he isn’t to HEADcoach anywhere in the SEC for at least 18 months, he CAN go back to any level coaching UNDER that meanwhile—and by multiple accounts he is driven to return to thst level to “redeem himself”—AND he supposedly has all the skills we (and DAN MULLEN) need (as a defensive specialist AND a Recruiting Ace) to help us BIG TIME.
But seems like too big a stretch to me, FOR me somehow: I’ll need a whole lot more time, evidence and the reassurance of folks I trust IMPLICITLY, GATOR-people from WAY back before I’ll be ready to throw in with them on THIS one.

I never follow rumors, especially when it comes to the Gator Nation after a loss. Not one coaching rumor has ever panned out, and that is a good thing. Chip Kelly, Scott Frost, Chris Petersen, Mike Gundy, Charlie Strong, and Will Muschamp are all rumors that never panned out as head coach or defensive coordinator. On top of that, the Florida program is never going to take a coach that has Title IX issues like Chip Kelly or Ed Orgeron--at least not as long as there are members of the Board of Trustees who remember how close UF got to an NCAA death penalty in the 1980s.

He could be a good DL or even a DC coach however I do agree with E94, I doubt they would hire someone with Title IX issues and other issues.

Oh, I “agree”—and yes, I even see the objective, theoretical underpinnings to the idea...
But the ONLY part of it that holds ANYTHING in the way of hope or positivism (let alone remains outside of “weird Fantasyland”) is of course the idea that at least there’s a wisp of acknowledgment, a nod to the very things we’re hoping Mullen sees and is prepared to ACT on with regard to a full-on overhaul of the defense AND a BIG upgrade in recruiting:
He’s GOT to know that BOTH must be strongly addressed if we are to make the kind of “HARD AND FAST MOVE” required of him, of our PROGRAM here and NOW.
Do NOT let that aforementioned “stubbornness” get in your own way now, Coach.

In an effort (inspired by Escambia94’s laconic precision) to likewise keep things “short and simple” for a change:
Defense:
TECHNIQUE. SCHEMING.
TACKLING, DAMNIT!!!
Recruiting:
Like with ANY salesmanship...
Some do it BETTER.
GET ONE OF THOSE!
Oh, and one more thing,
A NOTE TO OUR COACH:
With the additional time thus cleared in YOUR DUTIES,
a return to focus on YOUR “strengths”?
(I won’t presume to list them here and now—no need... RIGHT?)
We WANT you to succeed, Coach!
Finally, hugely, in every way.

Regardless, in the final analysis you’d think we could do BETTER than Orgeron in finding “the right guy” who fulfills any “future rebuilding blueprint”.
I’d say we were COUNTING ON IT, at this point!
