Gators will play Ohio State Jan. 2 in Gator Bowl

The Gators will play the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Gator Bowl, it was announced Sunday night.

Kickoff for the Gator Bowl on Monday January 2, will be at 1 p.m. ET from Everbank Field in Jacksonville, FL. The game will be broadcast at ESPN2.
Both teams will enter the game with a disappointing 6-6 record (by standards) and wanting to end the season on a positive note.

The Urban Meyer story line will be there of course, probably over played. Luke Fickell will actually be the head coach in the game for Ohio State.

Despite the 6-6 record, Ohio State will be a major challenge for the Gators. The challenge will be, if not for any other reason, in the Buckeyes ability to run the football on the ground. The Gators have struggled in that area against just about every opponent this season. The Buckeyes are ranked 27th in FBS in rushing yards averaging 195.4 yards per game. Against a ranked Wisconsin team in October, Ohio State ran the ball for 268 yards.

It will be the first football game between the schools since the 2007 BCS National Title game. The Gators last played in the Gator bowl in 1992 against NC State. UF is making its 21st consecutive appearance in a bowl game.
