Gators hire Deacon as men's golf coach

Deacon brings success as a player and an assistant at UNLV. He has coached there since 2011.
And he fits the mold of previous hires by Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley, coaches with no head coaching experience but plenty of energy and personality.
“He’s a perfect fit,” Foley said. “We had a great pool of candidates, but at the end of the day, J.C. rose to the top. When he left after his interview, everyone kind of looked around and said, ‘Wow, that was impressive.’
“Not many of us knew a lot about him, but I talked to a lot of people and all of the feedback was positive. I get it that he’s never run a program like this before, but he brings a huge amount of energy.”
