Gators DB recruits net an A+

DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD
The signees: Jeremy Brown, CB, 5-foot-10, 163 pounds, Orlando Boone; Adrian Bushell, CB, 5-10, 183, DeSoto, Texas; Dee Finley, S, 6-2, 200, Auburn, Ala.; Will Hill, S, 6-2, 203, West Orange (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep; Janoris Jenkins, CB, 5-10, 177, Pahokee.

The star: Hill played multiple positions in high school (mainly QB and S) and was rated the nation's No. 1 athlete by Rivals.com. He will play safety at UF, but also could get some touches on offense.

The sleeper: Bushell is probably the least known of the DB prospects, but he may be one of the top two or three athletes in UF's entire recruiting class. He played cornerback, wide receiver and running back in high school and also is a track standout.

One that got away: Patrick Johnson, CB, 6-1, 193, Pompano Beach Ely. The UF coaches thought he was coming last fall, but as it turns out Johnson committed to every school he visited. He ended up signing with LSU, but could not enroll early due to a flagged ACT score.

Grade: A+. Led by the safeties, Hill and Finley, this could be the No. 1 defensive back recruiting class in the nation. Two or three of these prospects could have an immediate impact on UF's young secondary.

Top target in 2009? Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, 6-2, 180, Gadsden, Ala. After intercepting six passes as a junior, Kirkpatrick is rated the No. 1 cornerback prospect in the nation by Rivals.com. He has excellent cover skills and a nose for the ball. He already has offers from Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Southern Cal and many others.
