Florida Gators Hands Kentucky a 41-7 Loss

A game in which the No. 1 Florida Gators were only favored by 22 points, we saw as many points scored in the first quarter alone. The Gators puts on the best performance I've seen all season in the first quarter of Saturday's game, they jumped out to a 31-0 lead, amassing 223 yards of total offense, compared to Kentucky’s -1 yard. The Gators also continued their streak of blocked punts against Kentucky when Chris Rainey ran one in for a touchdown in the first quarter. But the biggest story of the day wasn't the Gators crushing victory, it was the injury to quarterback Tim Tebow.

From ESPN.com

<blockquote>
The Gators were leading 31-7 in the third quarter and were driving deep in Kentucky territory when defensive end Taylor Wyndham came unblocked off the right end and sacked Tebow. As Tebow fell backward, his helmet struck teammate Marcus Gilbert's leg, violently bending his neck forward.

Teammates and trainers rushed to Tebow's side, but several minutes passed before the quarterback sat up with help and then slowly made his way off the field. Florida's medical staff attended to him on the bench, and his parents came down from the stands to join him.
</blockquote>

It was definitely a sad thing to see. The camera men just kept panning to the Gator section of the stadium and you could see the fans just stricken with sadness and helplessness as Tim laid there motionless on the field. Tim is fine now though. He stayed overnight at a hospital in Lexington, KY for precautionary reasons and was released yesterday. Tebow is back in Gainesville with his family resting and recovering from a concussion.

Backup John Brantley replaced Tebow and completed 4 of 6 passes for 30 yards, including an 8-yard TD pass to Riley Cooper in the fourth. The Gators are fortunately off this week as they prepare for LSU on October 10. If Tebow can't make it back to the field for the LSU game, then Brantley will get his first career start.

Other Notes from the game:

- The Gators rushed for 372 yards as a team

- Chris Rainey returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in the first quarter

- Aaron Hernandez and Riley Cooper scored receiving touchdowns

- Major Wright and Janoris Jenkins both had interceptions

- The Gators had only 1 penalty
