Florida Gator Scholarship Roster 2014

The Florida scholarship roster sure has seen a lot of instability over the years. Check out the roster size versus recruiting class attrition rate over the years:

The second column tells us that the scholarship roster has only been close to the max of 85 in three years since 2003: 2013 under Muschamp, and 2003-2004 under Zook. Attrition was highest for Muschamp's initial class of 2011 at 47%, and Zook's last class of 2004 at 48%. Zook only averaged a 15% attrition rate during his tenure, with the 48% mostly leaving during Meyer's time. Meyer averaged a 33% attrition rate, with many of those being due to severe discipline issues. Meyer did have an interesting problem with a large number of NFL Draft entries that led to smaller rosters.

I updated the scholarship roster. I believe the Gators have 82 scholarship players going into 2013, with one or two scholarships that may go to walk-ons.

I added QB Chris Wilkes as a walk-on. He will not be allowed on scholarship due to his former professional status, so the scholarship roster remains at about 82. Based on the lastest information, it appears that Jacob Guy and Ryan McGriff may not be on football scholarship. Walk-on Michael Herndon may earn a scholarship spot based on his performance in the 2013 Orange and Blue Debut.

The week 14 depth chart tells an interesting story. The only units that started and ended with the same lineup were FB, C, DE, Will (WLB), SS, LCB, Nickel, and Long Snapper. The three main reasons for the lineup changes: injuries, suspensions, and underperformance.

Here is the anticipated scholarship roster for spring practice in 2014. Unless a few of these athletes declare for the NFL Draft, we have 72-74 athletes returning, leaving room for another 11 on National Signing Day in April 2014. Tentatively we have 15-16 slated for the class of 2014, so we need a few more to declare for the Draft or to surrender scholarships. A few of these scholarships are former walk-ons, so they may have to make room for the new kids.

1. QB Max Staver will transfer from Florida due to lack of playing time.
2. QB Skyler Mornhinweg will transfer to be closer to home.
3. TE Kent Taylor will transfer due to lack of playing time (and injuries)
4. OL Quinteze Williams will transfer
5. OL Ian Silberman will graduate on Saturday and transfer for his final year of eligibility
6. DB/FB Rhaheim Ledbetter will transfer due to lack of playing time
7. TE Trevon Young will transfer to focus on basketball
8. QB Tyler Murphy will graduate and transfer for his final year of eligibility

Florida now has 68 scholarships and has enough room for 19 recruits on NSD (they currently have about 15-17 commitments).

I updated the roster going back to the class of 2004. Wow. Check out all the transfers highlighted in red! I updated the roster in the first post of this thread for everyone. It appears that under Muschamp we are averaging 25% attrition. Under Meyer we averaged 33%. Under Zook, 15%.

Add Tyler (Tx) CC JUCO transfer OL Drew Sarvary (6-5, 318) and Virginia Tech transfer walkon kicker Abbott Brooks. As of December 19 that puts the scholarship roster at 68, with two known preferred walkons (Brooks and former MLB pitcher Chris Wilkes).
