Some observations following UF’s 79-61 win over LSU on Saturday:
– Did the Gators get too 3-happy against LSU? Florida made 13 of 23 3-point attempts against the Tigers, so it made sense for the Gators to keep firing away. But even Florida coach Billy Donovan even expressed some concern postgame that the Gators went to the free-throw line seven times against an LSU team that averaged 19.4 fouls per game. Of Florida’s 54 shot attempts, 23 were 3s. It worked out well Saturday afternoon, but Florida could use a little more balance going forward.
– Nice to see senior forward Casey Prather get back in the flow offensively. Prather scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and looked better finishing in transition after some extra days to rest ankle and knee issues. When Prather is effectively slashing to the basket, Florida is more difficult to defend.
–It was another strong effort for UF’s defense, which had LSU confused for most of the game. With a mix of man, zone and press defenses, Florida held LSU to just 38.3 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent (7-21) from 3-point range. LSU padded its point total in garbage time late in the game against most of UF’s reserves.
