Baseball team heading to Tally

It's been three years since the Florida Gators last played in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. That year, UF was one of two teams standing at the end before falling short to Texas in the College World Series. They also started the tournament in Gainesville, but this year, they'll have to go to the school out west.

The Florida Gators have been given the No. 2 seed in the Tallahassee regional with Florida State hosting. The Seminoles are the tournament's overall No. 4 seed, finishing the season at 48-10.

The Gators draw Tulane in the opening game to be played on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Florida is 5-1 all-time against Tulane with their last meeting coming in a 4-2 decision in favor of the Gators in New Orleans in 1991. They also met in the 1988 NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee in 1988 where UF won 9-5.

Florida State plays Bucknell in the opening game. The winner of the four-team double elimination bracket will advance to the Super Regionals the following weekend.

We lost the opener against Tulane; now we're in a "must-win" situation against the SOW this afternoon to stay alive.

The loss was hard to swallow, especially having to lose to the SOW, but if there's anything positive out of it, I see it as a sign that our baseball program is on the rebound following the "down" years since our last CWS appearance. Getting this far under a first-year coach is an accomplishment, and I hope we move forward and get stronger next season.
