#64 Burton Lawless of Dothan, AL and Punta Gorda, FL is regarded as one of the program’s best-ever offensive linemen. Burton arrived in Gainesville as a tight end, but was injured his freshman year and coach Doug Dickey moved him to offensive guard. As a pulling guard, he was second-team All-SEC in both 1973 and 1974, and first-team All-American in 1974 before going 44th overall in the 1975 NFL Draft as part of the Dallas Cowboys "Dirty Dozen". He was the only rookie to start in the Super Bowl the following season. Burton played on three Super Bowl teams and was pivotal in the Cowboys winning Super Bowl XII in 1978. He returned to campus during the NFL off-season and finished his bachelor's degree in exercise and sport sciences in 1977, and was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Association Hall of Fame as a Gator Great in 1974.
