#24 Joseph Frederick Weary of Jacksonville, Florida was a cornerback for Steve Spurrier’s Florida Gators from 1994 to 1997. He was a key member of the 1996 Bowl Alliance National Championship team that defeated FSU 52-20 in the 1997 Sugar Bowl. Fred was first-team All-SEC in 1996 and 1997. Fred was named team captain and was a Consensus All American in a season where he intercepted an NCAA leading six passes. Fred finished his career as the Gators’ interception leader with 15, and is top five with 35 blocked passes.
Fred was a fourth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 1998 NFL Draft, where he played until 2001. He played one season with the Atlanta Falcons and St. Louis Rams before retiring from the NFL. Fred finished his career with 15 interceptions and 35 passes defended.
