#20 Robert Nolan Gillespie was born in Los Angeles, California and played high school football in Hattiesburg, Mississippi before joining Steve Spurrier’s Gator football team. Between 1998 and 2001, Gillespie split carries with #5 Earnest Graham in the backfield, and racked up 1,854 yards rushing while becoming the Gators’ #2 all-time receiving running back with 1,091 yards off 94 receptions. He was a team captain in his senior year of 2001 and was a key member of the Orange Bowl team that defeated the Maryland Terrapins 56-23.
Robert went undrafted in the 2002 NFL draft, but he did play a season for the Ol' Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, with the Washington Redskins. After a brief stint in the NFL and NFL Europa, Gillespie returned to the University of Florida in 2005 to complete his bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science and then followed Steve Spurrier to South Carolina as a graduate assistant. Robert found success as a running back coach at South Carolina, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
