Florida associate coach Larry Shyatt interviewed with Wyoming about its head coaching position, multiple news outlets reported Wednesday.
CBSSports.com’s GaryParrish reported that Shyatt could be introduced as Wyoming’s new coach within the next 48 hours.
Shyatt, a Florida asssitant since 2004, has turned down previous head coaching offers at Fairfield, Western Kentucky and UNF to stay at UF. But Shyatt had one of his most successful head coaching seasons at Wyoming. In 1997-98, Shyatt led Wyoming to a 19-9 record in NIT. The following season, Shyatt left Wyoming to take the head coaching job at Clemson.
If Shyatt leaves, it could open the door for former Gator assistant John Pelphrey to return to UF. Pelphrey, an assistant under Billy Donovan at both Marshall and Florida from 1994-2002, was fired as Arkansas’ head coach earlier this month.
In other coaching news, Florida Gulf Coast University has hired former FSU assistant Andy Enfield as head coach. Florida assistant Richard Pitino was a candidate for the FGCU position.
