Muschamp stands behind Aubrey Hill

Would Will Muschamp bring in Aubrey Hill to be the recruiting coordinator and wide receiver's coach at the University of Florida if he had to do it over again?

Saturday Muschamp, in typical Muschamp fashion, said he stood behind his assistant coach and didn't get into much detail beyond that regarding a report earlier in the week, which if true, implicates Hill in an NCAA scandal at Miami.

"I talked to Aubrey after the article came out, I feel very comfortable with he and I's conversation," Muschamp said.

"I support Aubrey 100 percent, I'm glad he's here at Florida."

Wednesday Yahoo Sports reported that while Hill was an assistant at Miami, on at least one occasion he was present at the home of a booster named Nevin Shaprio who provided ten of thousands in illegal benefits to recruits at the University of Miami.

Ultimately, the adults involved in the Miami scandal will be held responsible by the NCAA. Is Hill one of them?

Hill himself has not flatly denied he had any knowledge of illegal benefits being given to recruits while he was the an assistant and the recruiting coordinator for the 'Canes.

UF has also come out in defense of Andre Debose and Matt Patchan who are alleged to have received benefits from Shapiro during their recruitment to UM.

Florida released the following statement:

"We have been in communication with the NCAA, and there are no eligibility issues with Andre Debose and Matt Patchan as it relates to recent reports. Andre, Matt nor the University of Florida will have any additional comments regarding this matter."

-One of the biggest concerns for the entire Gator Nation is the offensive line, most importantly will they give John Brantley enough time, and secondly can they create holes for Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey.

Muschamp announced Saturday that if the season were to begin today, the starting lineup on the o-line would be Xavier Nixon at left tackle, Kyle Koehne at left guard, Jonotthan Harrison at center, Jon Halapio at right guard and Matt Patchan at right tackle. But he said that it's still too earlier to determine the starters for the remainder of the year.

-Muschamp said that true freshman Jeff Driskel is the team's No. 2 quarterback, which points towards Driskel taking the reigns next fall as the team's QB of the future. Though true freshman Jacoby Brissett and redshirt freshman Tyler Murphy might also be in the mix.

You're a step behind on some of this, man--not that it's hard to get caught that way in trying to report any of this. Surprising and unusual as it may be, the NCAA has moved quickly to clear our players of eligibility "issues", at least based on the extensive information revealed thus far.
Coach Hill is a separate case, and whatever happens will have to wait somewhat longer while the extent of involvement of ALL Miami players, coaches and "responsible personnel" on-the-scene during that period is untangled. The bad news is that he had the same duties at scUM as he does now at UF, including recruiting; the good news is that in the midst of detailed reports of widespread and obvious corruption, the one vague mention of his having been "at the home of" Nevil Shapiro is all that was noted in the initial Yahoo story.
By all we've heard and seen of Coach Hill's work here at UF, his coaching and recruiting held in high regard by players and coaches alike, it would hurt to lose him now.
It'd be great to see the "big fish", those at the center truly responsible for the "culture of corruption" the NCAA claims to be what they really are intent on destroying, be the ones they go after--but they tend to hang "the little guys" first, then somehow it never goes much further...a few scapegoats, a firing or two, then it's over. It may be different this time, but it'll probably require "anyone who knows anything" to do some "singing" of their own, and that tends to get messy.
