The Florida Gator men's basketball team had a convincing victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Friday night. The win advances the Gators to the NIT quarterfinals where they will play the Penn State Nittany Lions Tuesday night. The Gators get to play in the O'Connell Center, where they've only lost one time all year, for the third game in a row.
The series between Florida and Penn State is tied 1-1 and the two teams have not met since 1982. Penn State matches up well with Florida's size, or lack thereof. Neither team has a player over 6'9" in the starting lineup and neither team has a true center. Their starting point guard is the player we have to look out for. Talor Battle is a small guy at only 5'11" but he averages 16.9 ppg and 5.4 assists.
The Gators should be able to win the low post against PSU, but their bread and butter will be the outside shooting. The Gators have hit 289 three-pointers on the year, tied for second-best in school history and eight shy of the school record of 297 (2006-07). With some good shooting, that record could be broken Tuesday night.
