The No. 12 Florida Gator baseball team has started their season off in the right direction. They opened the 2009 season by sweeping the Louisville Cardinals and Eastern Michigan Eagles. They are now 5-0 and welcome the Miami Hurricanes tomorrow to McKethan Stadium.
The Gators are batting an impressive .343 as a team. I'd liked to see their power numbers improve a little bit (only 3 homeruns through 5 games), but they are still managing to put up a lot of runs without the long ball. Patrick Keating was impressive in his first start of the 2009 season, giving up only 2 earned runs in 7 innings pitched while striking out 7 batters.
Miami will test the Gators this weekend. If we can come out 2-1 in the 3 game series I'll be very happy and it will show the Gators are back to being contenders.
