FOX Sports UF WR breakdown

If your name is John Brantley IV, you are very excited about the wealth of talented receivers you will be tossing a football to in 2010.

If your name has the letters ‘W’ and ‘R’ next to it on a Gator roster, you are trying to figure out where you fall in this sparkling pool of skill. You are plotting and planning with one goal in mind – You want that No. 1 spot.

If your name is Zach Azzanni, you have your work cut out for you trying to pick a go-to guy to consistently catch John Brantley’s spirals. There are so many choices, but you are out to discover the man among boys who sets himself apart. Maybe you have more than one in mind and, with this spread of talent, it is acceptable.

Great read, definitely gave me a lot more insight into the receiver position going into this coming season. Thompson will definitely be getting the most attention and scrutiny during the season for how far he progresses, but that's just the fate of a 5 star recruit who hasn't blown up on the field so far. Brantley will have plenty to work with, but at the same time it'll take the team a while to really figure out how all of those pieces will actually work together. It will be interesting to see how things play out over the rest of the summer leading into the opener against Miami of Ohio.

Because of Brantley's sharp passing skills, Deonte Thompson, for one, should kick his game up a few notches. Andre Debose was showing some promise before he was injured last season, but he's bound to make a comeback and show what he can do out there. Carl Moore was also out insured last season, and he hsould benefit from working with a strong passing QB.

Frankie Hammond landed himself in Urban Meyer's doghouse with that foolish DUI; we won't know his fate until his case has been decided in the courts. If he does come back for part of the season, he'll need to work his way back into Meyer's good graces.

I'm also anxious to see if Stephen Alli will see some playing time this fall; I saw a little of him early last season and he was still getting acclimated to the college game having come right out of high school in Canada.

Also want to see what Solomon Patton and the other receivers in our incoming freshman class can do.
