Florida Scrimmage notes

I didn't see anyone post anything about the scrimmage the Gators recently held.

Florida gave fans a glimpse of its basketball future Sunday afternoon at the O'Connell Center.

What fans saw was a team that weathered through some ragged stretches to produce some entertaining, unselfish basketball.

Florida scrimmaged for 15 minutes (three, five-minute periods) to conclude Fan Appreciation Day festivities. About 500-1,000 fans stayed to watch the white and blue teams play to a 30-30 tie.

Freshman forward Chandler Parsons led all scorers with 11 points. The 6-foot-9 Parsons ran the floor well, scoring two of his baskets on putbacks while hustling down the floor.

Sophomore center Marreese Speights added nine points, switching from a blue-to-white jersey for the final period. Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan also switched Parsons and Jonathan Mitchell throughout the scrimmage as he experimented with different combinations throughout the game.

On the white squad, the three-guard combination of Walter Hodge, Jai Lucas and Nick Calathes was effective. Calathes finished with seven points and two assists, Lucas had seven points and Hodge had five points and three assists.
