Mark your calendar! I'm blogging about something other than Gator football, basketball and baseball. When the Florida Gators capture an SEC title it tends to grab my attention. This time it was the No. 3 Florida Gators men's outdoor track team that defeated the field to bring home a conference championship. Gator football star running back Jeff Demps led the way with an individual title in the men's 100-meter dash. The Florida Gators captured the NCAA indoor title earlier this year.
"I'm very, very proud of our men’s team for winning its first conference outdoor title in 23 years," Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. "It's been a long journey and I’m really proud of the team for its determination and fight. The meet didn't necessarily go as expected, but you have to be able to deal with adversity. Great teams are able to respond to adversity and we did that this weekend."
Should the Gators advance to the NCAA Finals, they will be held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
