Florida Falls to No. 14 in Loss to Alabama

If I told you the Gator defense held Alabama to only 273 total yards and that Trent Richardson and Mark Ingram only had 63 and 47 yards rushing, respectively, you might think the Gators played well enough on defense to win the game. Well, that wasn't the case. Florida got stomped 31-6. Turnovers and ineffectiveness on the Bama side of the field just killed us.

The Gators first four series in the game went interception (failed jump pass from the 1 yard line that everyone in the stadium knew was coming), punt, interception, and punt. We finally put up 3 points before halftime to save some face. It was just horrible. The final five series of the game for the Gators went punt, interception, fumble, turnover on downs and punt. I've never seen a drive chart like this before in my life. We were just outplayed in every aspect of the game.

"We got beat by a good team," Meyer said. "We just didn't play very well." I remember saying turnovers were key in this game. Well, the Gators had 4 of them and Alabama had 0. That says a lot about the score.

Brantley finished the game 16-31 for 202 yards and 2 interceptions. Demps rushed the ball 11 times for 47 yards (respectable against a tough defense) and Thompson led the team in receiving. Debose was in the game for quite a few plays and he made 2 grabs for 30 yards - he also ran back 2 kicks for 45 yards. I really like what I have seen out of him in the first few games, even though it's been pretty limited.

From here we just have to suck it up and finish the season strong. The Gators are ranked 14th now in the AP Poll - meaning it's a long shot to make the BCS National Championship but still a good chance at a BCS Bowl game. Beating No. 12 LSU will certainly help.

Here are some pictures from the game.
