Some observations following Florida’s 91-60 win over UNF:
— Florida’s lack of urgency to start the second half has become a troubling trend. After letting Miami go on a 9-0 run to start the second half last Sunday, the Gators let UNF to go on a 8-0 run to start the second half on Thursday, cutting UF’s 20-point second half lead to 12. Certainly, Florida can’t afford any letdowns to start the second half on Tuesday night against No. 5 Duke in New York City.
— North Florida senior guard Dallas Moore is a special player, but Florida coach Mike White felt that Moore had too many open looks from 3-point range. White said the scouting report was to make Moore a driver and shoot contested 2-point shots off the bounce. Moore went 6 of 12 from 3-point range. “Not the fact that he made six 3s on us, but the fact that he got 12 3s off, can’t happen,” White said. “If he’s going to get 12 3s off a night, he’s going to make a lot of them.”
— Florida junior center John Egbunu had some emphatic blocks against UNF (three total) but it would be nice to see him keep some of those blocks in play rather than swat them out of bounds. Egbunu has blocked 15 shots over his last four games. Led by Egbunu (2.5 bpg) and backup center Kevarrius Hayes (1.6 bpg), Florida ranks second in the SEC in blocked shots with 53. The Gators haven’t had this kind of rim protection since Joakim Noah, Al Horford and Chris Richard were patrolling the paint during UF’s 2006-07 back-to-back national title runs.
