Some observations following UF’s 84-74 to Duke at Madison Square Garden:
— It was a tough night for Florida junior point guard Chris Chiozza, who was unable to build off his 16 points, 9 assist outing against UNF. Chiozza had 2 points, 1 assist and 3 turnovers in 11 minutes and appeared to be dealing with a hamstring issue during the game.
— Florida had an interesting early gameplan to attack the basket, taking just 3 3-point attempts and 11 for the game. Florida coach Mike White said it was a byproduct of how Duke defended the Gators and their ability to run UF off the 3-point line. Florida still shot the ball fairly well beyond the arc, going 6 for 11. The Gators are 14 for 30 from 3-point range over their last two games.
— Florida simply couldn’t finish around the basket consistently enough against Duke’s length and athleticism. The Gators shot 42.6 percent from the floor for the game. John Egbunu was a big culprit, going 2 of 10 from the floor and missing some baskets within 5 feet. Canyon Barry was 3 of 9 from the floor, missing some drives, while Keith Stone was 1 of 5.
