Almost Unanimous

The AP voters recently voted their preseason top 25 for the 2009 college football season. They almost got it right this year when 58 of the 60 writers voted Florida No. 1 - two rogues just had to ruin the unanimous decision by voting Texas No. 1. Florida 96.7% of first place votes is an all-time high. The previous highest percentage of first-place votes for the AP preseason poll, which started in 1950, was 95.4 percent for USC in 2007. USC Failed to play for the title that year.

The Florida Gators are seeing an unprecedented amount of hype heading into the 2009 season. They have a two-time national champion, Heisman winning quarterback and returned 11 defensive starters from arguably the top defense in 2008. The Gators are extremely tough and very fast. They have speed at all positions.

Is it a coincidence that this team is Urban Meyer's first full class. This team is all his, no more Zook players. They're loaded from top to bottom. The Gators potentially have 4-5 first round 2010 NFL draft picks. These guys play hard and they play to win the game. They'll lay it all on the line for their coach.

With so many people expecting the world from the Gators, that also means they will not be forgiving if the Gators should lose a game. The Gators have benefited from the "human factor" the past few years when it comes to the BCS Selection, but if they lose a game this year and disappoint millions of voters - they won't receive the same benefit. The Gators need to run the table to cement themselves in NCAA history.
