The Florida Gator beatdown over the South Carolina Gamecocks last Saturday must have caught the eye of SEC voters. Gator running back / wide receiver Percy Harvin was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and defensive end Jermain Cunningham was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week.
This is the first time Percy Harvin has been recognized by the SEC for a single game performance this season. This is the second time that Cunningham has been recognized, receiving the same honor following his performance versus Miami.
Harvin rushed for a career-high 167 yards and tied a career high with two rushing touchdowns in UF’s 56-6 win over No. 24 South Carolina. His 167 rushing yards versus the Gamecocks were the most by any wide receiver in the nation this year against a top-25 program. Because of his involvement in the rushing attack, Percy's receptions were limited. His biggest play came from a quick hand off by Tebow, which Percy turned into an 80-yard gain up the field. The SC defense just couldn't match his speed.
Cunningham was a beast on defense against South Carolina. He pushed their offensive linemen around like they were high-schooler. He was first on the squad with eight total tackles (six solo) and added 0.5 sacks for a loss of two yards, two tackles for a loss of five yards and one forced fumble.
Congratulations to both Percy Harvin and Jermaine Cunningham on a job well done.
