The SEC Tournament

The Florida Gators (22-9, 9-7) played poorly down the stretch, but are coming off a big home win against rival Kentucky. The Gators have a legitimate shot of winning the Southeastern Conference Tournament which begins in Tampa at the St. Pete Times Forum Thursday. The Gators play their first SEC Tournament game Thursday at 9:45 pm against Arkansas (16-15, 2-14).

This is the fourth meeting between the two schools in SEC Tournament play. The Gators have won the two most recent meetings (don't forget those were the two NCAA Gator Championship teams). The Gators are 11-10 all-time against Arkansas, including an 80-65 win in Gainesville on Jan. 17. All 11 of UF's all-time wins
over the Razorbacks have come under Billy Donovan (11-5 against Arkansas).

Just because Arkansas was 2-14 in the SEC doesn't mean they're a chump team. The Razorbacks boast impressive non-conference victories over a pair of top-10
teams in Oklahoma and Texas. Oklahoma is on their way to becoming a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tourney.

The key to this game is the Gators three-point shooting. They're averaging 8.3 three-pointers made per game, which is the highest mark of a Gator team since 2002-2003. If they hit their three's they will win the game.

I'm a little nervous about this game just because the Gators haven't proven anything yet this season. They've lost so many close games and couldn't beat a team with a top 50 RPI to save their life. Hopefully Calathes can take charge of the team and lead them to a first round victory.

Most experts are saying the Gators need two SEC Tournament wins to make the NCAA Tournament.
