University of Florida recent senior Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) earned her first win as a member of the U.S. National team in a 7-0, five-inning victory over Australia in round-robin play at the Canada Cup on Tuesday night. The U.S. improved their record to 5-0 in the tournament.
Nelson made her first start, allowing two hits in the first. She came back with a 1-2-3 inning in the second, including a strike out to end the inning.
Monica Abbott relieved the righty for the second half of the game at the top of the fourth. The former Gator struck out three and allowed four hits without a walk in a combined shutout.
The Red, White and Blue will play two games today, taking on the Netherlands at 6:30 p.m. EST and Venezuela at 11:30 p.m. EST in the nightcap.
