Sorry, but I am COMPLETELY done with Billy:
I don't mean merely in supporting him.
I cannot LISTEN to him anymore.
I cannot even listen to my favored podcasts talk ABOUT him anymore.
I suppose I will, for the time being, continue to comment HERE, (MAYBE) during and (certainly AFTER) games the rest of this season--but (except for discussion of replacement candidates meanwhile) and/or (even better) in the aftermath of his firing already being a done deal, for the moment I am simply finding myself less and less inclined to comment.
Hell--at THIS point I don't even care to THINK about it:
It just makes me more and more angry.

I am SO angry and disillusioned at this point that it has robbed me even of the normal pleasures of college football (even on a by-week) this time around...
Like the small and simple pleasure of enjoying FSU upset by unranked Virginia, whose fans rushed the field as the Noles' offense is stopped, their much-touted QB-1 intercepted in the endzone in double-overtime. I only watched it after-the-fact, once (eventually) stumbling across the final score--basically denied the largest part of the potential satisfaction by the larger context of this monumental failure of our program, its Coach, and the regime that together brought us to this total BUMMER of a season.
Aside from that highlight and monitoring some scores, I have had little inclination to actually watch any games this weekend.
All I am concerned about for now is news (and SOME discussion, depending on the source) of OUR FUTURE.

I don't know if I blame you. I don't want to wave the white flag yet but...........
I admit that despite everything, I TOO (at least in some dark corner of my mind) harbor some miniscule crumb of hope that Lagway might indeed "pull a Tebow", make good on his (no doubt sincere) "Promise Two"...He is the one "key figure" who MIGHT indeed "change our fate"--raise his own play, and that of all around him:
He cannot do it alone, but the kid we saw come off the bench with bum leg last year and turn the page on 2024's storyline would sure be ".a sight for sore eyes" NOW!
I certainly HATE the idea of "waving a white flag"--violating as it does every BIT of the spirit behind what we sing between the 3rd and 4th quarters of every GAME!
It's just that a much larger part of me is by now thoroughly resigned to the idea that THIS time just the OPPOSITE is about to occur.
I want to be wrong.
I WILL at the very least still be "monitoring" the early going of these next few games--this ongoing "gauntlet". I WANT to find myself, with growing amazement, heaping relieved praise not just on the team but on all those who somehow "kept the faith" after all, through it all.
I just have NO expectation that this is what we are about to experience.
Tell me honestly, LF:
Do YOU?

Honestly I don't know. There are teams that I do feel are overrated like Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Kentucky but those games are on the road. Miss State, UTenn, and FSU are at home and Georgia well, that game I don't hold much faith in. I can see a bowl game but that probably won't be enough for Billy to keep his job. They beat Texas. In the words of Herman Edwards, "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!!"

Me, I'd have to see them WIN OUT to even UNDERSTAND retaining him as our Coach:
I believe I have already seen enough, MORE than enough, to know who he is and what he is capable of:
Billy is a nice guy, a very good HIGHSCHOOL Coach--with all the attitude and heart required in the responsible oversight of young men at that level and stage in their social and emotional development...BUT--
At THIS level, "you're as good as your record SAYS you are": In the SEC, he's a .500 Coach AT BEST!
Even if he and this team were to "WIN OUT" from here, all I granted was the possibility that I'd UNDERSTAND "retaining him"--Frankly, as unlikely as that appears from here, I am still NOT in the slightest BIT sure I would feel any different about keeping him than I did BEFORE this last one--OR how I continue to feel NOW.
For those singing a DIFFERENT tune, bear this in mind: NEXT week we go on the road to face a top-5 TAMU team. Not exactly a "pushover"--and just the first of as tough a mid-to-late season stretch of opponents as ANYONE faces from here.
Last night we saw that THE TALENT INDEED is still there on the field and Florida sideline;
Sadly, so also is the same Head Coach.

As somewhat expected, by Monday there's a vocal minority talking about Billy having "saved his job"...
Can they not at least wait until we see if he can guide them to an above-.500 record in the next couple of weeks before returning to that kind of "premature overreach" once more??!
