BCS Rankings Countdown

I hope Coach Boom can get the pressure off the team. I am projecting us as number 2 or 3 in the BCS tonight based upon our schedule strength.

#2, as it turns out, thanx to the computers, much as anything/one else...as for complaints/"controversy" coming from outside the SEC, especially Oregon and their West Coast supporters, I don't really understand their bellyaching--they NEED to look out for their OWN teams/seasons: After all, it is as much the other at least couple of SEC-East teams that are ALSO their "potential competitors", and why it's still all more "symbolic" yet until things play themselves out: With the SEC Championship Game out there beyond the regular season, Alabama CLEARLY the top team in the West, the SEC--and yes, probably all of college football right now as well, with Oregon not really "shut out" of the eventual #2 ranking and place in the BCS by ANY means, given the situation in the SEC, where there are multiple opportunities for UF to lose a game, and up to 3 East teams with 1-loss-resumes vying for a place against the Tide in Atlanta if/when they do. Either way, at least ONE team emerges from that game with one loss--if it ISN'T "unbeaten-Alabama" representing the West in that game there'll have been a big shake-up in the BCS-standings by then ANYWAY--and a still-unbeaten Ducks team would be waiting in the wings to face the winner when its over...They have only to meanwhile "take care of business"--but with their failure to do so opening the door to a 1-loss team likely facing the SEC-Champ, and the possibility of an all-SEC "BCS-Nat'l Championship Game" for the second year in a row! THEN watch the hysterical free-for-all!
(NOTE: We-the-public get to discuss, project, argue and generally chew this thing over like a lion-with-a-play-toy, but the players oughtn't even be thinking about it...reality, however, has little to do with what "SHOULD" be: They watch "Sportscenter", hear it from their friends and fellow students wherever they go on Campus Monday morning and so on, and in the end the only thing that can grab their attention and snap them out of it is above all the attitude and general demeanor of their coaches...OUR coaches started preaching "Never mind the BS, we look out for ourselves and each other and the business at hand-PERIOD!" since the first two-a-days back in the early spring: They don't have to even SAY it now. At this point, the PLAYERS are saying it to each other, if they even talk about it in the first place...It's one of the things that is different about this Gator TEAM from the immature, "me-first"-attitudes that were so prevalent during previous regimes, even during successful , glory-filled seasons. We've had lots of talent and speed-to-BURN, and everything was fine as long as things went our way--but that success was brittle, and all it might take is just one sudden "minor disaster", even a self-induced one (that in retrospect seems sooner or later to have been likely, even inevitable) to basically destroy those teams' fragile unity and reveal the vulnerability that in truth showed them to be a loose collection of selfish individuals (Remember the week leading up to the '09 SEC Championship Game, when one key player's selfishness had him out partying, getting in trouble, and making himself that week's "Big News" in Atlanta? His ensuing suspension from the game began a downhill emotional slide that quickly became a full on, team-cracking tumble, no, AVALANCHE that had our team come out flat and disinterested, easily beaten when not even their leader-without-equal, #15 running up and down the sidelines trying to exhort them into "getting off the canvas", could lift them from their already-beaten funk).
Not so THIS group--and it's not just the current team, but the chemistry and attitude of future-teams, of what will change, evolve but nonetheless remain the character of the individuals who will come in and soon find themselves included in something special, something bigger-than-themselves thanx to the ongoing leadership of the by-then juniors and seniors who are here now, who themselves have already internalized not just the words but the very attitude of the coaches, starting with their HEAD Coach, in everything they do and say, in turn take OTHERS in and pass it on in similar fashion, and so on down the line in years ahead. We're not just getting "good" now, we are being "built for the long haul", and it is beginning to happen "organically", growing steadily stronger through, up and outward from WITHIN the program, player by player throughout the whole TEAM. The strength that is more and more characterizing this team will be a main feature for many years to come.)
