Porter Michael Peterson was born in Gainesville, Florida. He played linebacker for Steve Spurrier from 1995 to 1998, where he was a member of the 1996 Bowl Alliance national championship team that defeated the ‘Semi ‘Noles 52-20 in the Sugar Bowl. In his Gator career he posted 249 tackles, 3 forces fumbles, 13 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He was voted 1st-team All Sheridan, 1st team All-SEC and team MVP in his senior year. He was a second round pick for the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft. In 2011 he was inducted in the University of Florida Athletic Association Hall of Fame as a Gator Great. In 2013, Mike returned to campus to complete his undergraduate degree in sociology and serve as undergraduate coach under DJ Durkin. In 2014, Mike moved to the strength and conditioning staff before joining the Bill Walsh Minority Coach Fellowship Program on a path to an NFL coaching job. In 2015 he spent time on the St. Louis coaching staff.
