Yeah yeah yeah...The Meyer we know so well:
“I’m SICK! I’m SICK! I’m SICK!!!”
(...just gimme what I want:
In this case, big money, guarantee buy out, and no interference—from fans, boosters OR “management”: the last the only one who has true direct potential power over him in the pros. But if you want Urban, this is what he requires, just to listen now it seems).

GEE. Big surprise, that.
This guy is emblematic of our times:
You can always tell when he’s lying:
His LIPS are moving.

I read an article somewhere he demanded 12 million a year. Unsure if just a rumor or........... Jon Gruden returned to the Raiders for 10 million. If he wanted that money, Meyer should have got to Texas where he would have gotten it and then some.

Yes! I was thinking the exact same thing—but HE wants the money AND a CROWN (or at least the corporate equivalent: The power of contractual “FUCK YOU-POWER”!)

Jacksonville Jaguars hire Urban Meyer as coach (espn.com)

Honestly I think it's a wrong decision for both sides. Yes, the owner probably thinks that hiring a former Gator Coach will help ticket sales. Honestly, I don't know how many Gator fans are still bitter at Meyer. I know I am and I'm sure you guys aren't too far behind.

I think it is the perfect move by Urban Meyer. He is more of a CEO type coach than an Xs and Os coach. All things being equal, in the NFL it is the CEO coach that has a better chance of success; whereas in college it is the Xs and Os coaches or guidance counselor types that succeed. The Jaguars are the perfect team to start an NFL coaching career, because there is no expectation to win. The team is 177-239 (42.5%) all time, and is 7-7 in the post-season. They are the 25th-ranked team in terms of valuation at $2.45B, $443M revenue, and $99M operating income. For comparison, the Florida Gators are the 9th-ranked team in terms of revenue at $117M revenue and $69M of profit/operating income. Note: Florida actually pulls in more profit than Alabama, but Alabama earns more revenue.

This is also a good move by Urban to gain favor with the Gator Nation. Most of the boosters who would be financing Urban's enshrinement in the Gator Ring of Honor are supportive of Urban. My theory is that they were waiting for signs that Urban would not coach at a rival college team before finalizing his enshrinement. It is mostly us fans who are bitter about Urban Meyer, and our vote does not matter. The Ring of Honor committee will wait for the right time and enshrine Urbs. Meyer coaching an NFL team only hours away from Gainesville and with a strong Gator presence only helps him gain favor with both the RoH committee and the fans.

I see this playing out in a similar manner as the relationship between Bill Belichik and Urban Meyer between 2005 and 2010. In that time frame, the New England Patriots and Florida Gators coaching staffs exchanged plenty of visits and it established a Gator pipeline to the NFL. Jacksonville already has a decent pipeline of Gators, but this should only make that relationship better.

Mmmmmm...Do you really think so?
The part about “fans don’t matter” to the boosters?
I mean, I follow your reasoning regarding previous relationships among Meyer, Bellichik and New England, Jacksonville, and other major college programs—and ALL of its’ potential effect on his chances of getting into the “Ring of Honor” anytime soon—but if THAT, of all things, were a major factor in all of this, then don’t you think Gator fans’ continued antipathy (hell, outright bitterness) towards Meyer would be (and still is) a strong negative factor?
Still: He WOULD have opportunity to repair such relationships—provided he is successful in revamping the Jaguars and “returning” them at least to contention (their few forays to the post season have never lasted in consistent fashion) and KEEPING them there...
The degree that would help repair his relationship with the fan base may depend more on the degree to which he IS able to establish that
“G-Ville to J-ville” pipeline you posit.
But don’t forget: You cannot really eliminate the specter of a persistent “Gator-hero’s Spirit” that continues to cast its spell of influence and attitude over all such “extracurricular activities and decisions” emanating from “Gator Central”...
I’m referring of course to Steve Spurrier’s continued presence and importance in such “back room” discussions. Or don’t you think that holds anything more than vestigial weight anymore?
I’d be interested to hear YOUR “take” on all THAT, E—.

You know where I stand when it comes to Meyer, Lf.
But the truth is, I got ESPN+ just so I could follow the CFL and some of our ex-Gator stars up there...So if he were able to convert the Jags into some “Gator-grad Pro South” squad and WIN with them, I might actually find myself watching some Sunday games again.
Anything’s possible, I suppose—but that idea may just be a pipe dream wafting among Gator fans down in Duval County: I expect Urban Meyer to do exactly what is best (as HE sees it) for URBAN MEYER—and he’s already accomplished a big fat “First Part” of that in landing a nice big contract from and full control OVER the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The rest, as they say, “remains to be seen”. Let’s just say, that as a GATOR fan, I am “careful, guarded and reserved” when it comes to counting on ANYTHING (least of all “honor”) when it comes to “expectation” and that man.

Fact: our "vote" as fans who sit in our basements in our underwear not attending games or donating $16k/year means absolutely nothing with regards to the Gator Ring of Honor. Zip. Zilch. If you think otherwise, please share whatever you are smoking. We "vote" by sending money to the University of Florida Athletic Association, and I am quite certain that none of us on this forum is a Bull Gator. Heck, I would wager to bet that none of us is a Fighting Gator, Scholarship Partner, Scholarship Club, or Grand Gator.

Opinion: I think the majority of the Gator Nation that does donate to the UFAA is not bitter about Urban Meyer.

We’ve been “talkin’ Gator Football” together a LONG time now here at “GE”, E—: You and I in particular.
So I know better than to take offense or mistake your response as any kind of implied put down or angry challenge—in fact HAD embarked from this point here on an extended recounting of my GRANDfather’s history as an early-to-mid-20th-century Gator booster and modest philanthropist—and have cut myself off, deleted all that and am in the process of replacing all of it and more with THIS instead. It might have been more “interesting” from a historical P.O.V., but it wouldn’t have really served much purpose as far as our moving forward as a team and program.
Me and him didn’t get on well in any event. He was a man of some influence, however, his words and attitude carried some weight among a certain group of retired men (corporate, entrepreneurial AND ex-MILITARY) in the Florida of the 50’s thru’ the early-70’s, “Florida Blue Key” and all that—so I know who and what you are talking about, and know better than to argue or deny it—but they all understood “image” AND “the bottom line”, the importance of “profits”, “putting asses in the seats” and all of THAT TOO!—so though they “wanted what they wanted”, including vanity projects like choosing such things as “who’s going into the ‘Gator Ring of Honor’, and the like; I cannot argue with you there.
But don’t underestimate the degree to which PERSONAL “power trips” and “axes to grind” might influence such choices and decisions either.
Personally, I am OUTTA that loop—I just don’t KNOW anymore (if I ever DID have anything more than what my Grandma had overheard and was able to continue to share with me privately for a few years after the General passed on). She WAS still in touch with the “other wives” socially as well, but one way or another, one-by-one THAT “circle” separated over time too.
So you are no doubt right to dismiss ME, personally, as one “SMALL GATOR VOICE”, a “spit in the ocean” if you like—but NOT necessarily “ALL OF US, TOGETHER”: What is commonly referred to as “GATOR NATION”:
WE add UP!!! Put Alachua and Duval counties together, a fair portion of GATORS spread and embedded across and down the State of Florida—and ONWARD UP AND ACROSS THIS GREAT AND EXTENDED LAND OF OURS, and it REALLY “adds up”:
Sure, it has been quashed, squished and isolated with so much forgotten and seemingly lost thanks to Covid...but like so much else, it is just DYING to BUST FORTH ONCE MORE—and IT WILL, and SOON I think (all too literally of late!)...
But THE REAL THING IS COMING:
Sure, we’ve heard it all before, but the TOOLS are THERE now.
Lay low. Get the vaccine shots. Hang in there awhile longer and JUST WAIT IT OUT A WHILE LONGER. Let’s make it to the finish line. There’s a Big Party for everyone there!
And for US, ultimately, for “GATOR NATION”, more than one NATTY. I truly believe it.
I look ahead now with an eye towards “Who is/are the likely QB(s)?”
“The likely DBs?”
“OLs?”
“WRs?”
And SO ON???
