Fall camp started 8/17. Teams are allowed 25 sessions prior to 9/26, with each school being limited to 20 hours of practice or meetings per week with at least two days off per week. Practices are limited to two days in helmets only, two days in helmets (?), two days in partial pads, and one day in full pads. Between 8/7 and 8/16 teams were allowed 14 hours of practice without a ball.

Currently, the following players are holding out for undisclosed reasons:
  • Kadarius Toney
  • Trevon Grimes

Update: Trevon Grimes and Zachary Carter commit to playing in 2020.

I will guess that Jacob Copeland will also play. His family cannot afford to pay for healthcare if Jacob or the family in Pensacola contracts coronavirus. I would assume the same is true for Kadarius Toney, but KT also knows that he is seen by the NFL as a slightly less electric version of Percy Harvin and might have enough film to be a late round pick or undrafted free agent.

One thing in common with many of these kids is that they lost family and friends due to gun violence or illness recently. I think at some point they will realize that their financial, medical, health, and emotional wellness are best protected while in Gainesville while surrounded by a free medical staff, nutrition staff, fitness staff, and a group of friends they can trust.

I agree—and hope this IS both TRUE, and thus the path they choose...and (BTW) am proud and glad that this may BE the case, if it is; After all, if there is anything the relentless, repeated news of such tragic (not to mention unjust, uneven and unfair) tales in situation after situation, city after city (and NOT just in the SOUTH, y’all will note) denote in DETAIL, this IS an ongoing, endemic long-term problem, a sad and inescapable feature of our society in general down through the years—and ongoing even NOW, in these supposedly “more enlightened” times.
As is and has ALWAYS been the case when it comes to our “republic” and endless need for effort at personal awareness AND vigilance in striving for “a more perfect union”, the work is never done. It should come as no surprise that we are still so far from anything LIKE “perfection”.
For us as a subset of that “society”, in this case “all of us fellow Gators”, it is, more than ever, incumbent upon us to, at the very least, LISTEN TO AND SHARE WITH EACH OTHER, based on growing awareness and shared insight.
That is the potential hope and salvation of our whole nation and society from here.
Maybe that sounds “pie in the sky”—but in the long run, we damn well better hope not!

PS. Don’t know bout y’all, but every time I look at and RE-evaluate E-‘s listing of “the two seasons”—“before” and “after” the post-covid “reshuffle”—each time I come away thinking we got even MORE shafted...At THIS point I just don’t expect the “breakthrough Season Three” for this Mullens-led Gator program that I felt brewing as we entered the off-season START of 2020.
Geez, I hope I’m wrong—and no matter what, at this point I am DAMN glad we are playing at ALL in the SEC...but I approach the next few weeks “with a sinking feeling in my gut”—I admit that.
I’ll say no more, except to apologize in advance to all of you for my dark vibes and low expectations...I can’t even say, don’t WANT to dwell on all the mainly elusive reasons WHY I feel that way. Not just the outright changes in WHO we play, but when and how, home or away, etc etc blah blah blah...Just that every time I simply read the two lists, “before” and “after”, it always comes back to a haunting, sinking feeling, like I say.
We’ll probably do “alright”—but even “just losing two” will feel like a bit of a let down, a “step back” at this point I suspect. One more thing to absolutely HATE about this Pandemic and the dysfunctional world it has left us all scrambling madly to adapt to!
I wanna see a safe vaccine and a chance for us to begin to TURN THE PAGE on this mess—but I’m in a “highest risk” category and they’ve managed to politicize even THAT aspect of the process.
Ah well...Yes: I AM watching ESPN as BYU kicks off to NAVY in Annapolis this Labor Day evening. Don’t know how MUCH I’ll watch (no crowd...and the SOUND is weird, I notice—at least on MY system). Yeah—happy to be watching some college football—but can’t say I care that much about EITHER of these teams or programs. Prob not enough to hold me for 4 quarters at an empty stadium. And CERTAINLY not enough to spend it discussing the game with y’all (LOL).
But SEE YOU ALL IN 19 DAYS!!!

The one thing that is common to both schedules (original and modified) is that Florida must beat Georgia in order to win the East. The big difference is that now Florida must begin and end the season on the road. I am not changing my perspective on the Gators this year, since this year is less about athletes and schemes and more about adapting to change. The Gators have been coached to adapt to change ever since Mullen showed up, so I give the edge to Mullen's team against everyone on the schedule.

You make a good point, E/-:
“...Coached to adapt to change...”
Yes. AND Mullens IS a crafty, flexible Coach who is leading his squad into the THIRD year of an accelerated plan that, WITHOUT Covid-19 seemed to have us on target WITH MOMENTUM coming into 2020 for a real shot at overtaking UGA in the East...I wasn’t sure we were quite ready to make the full-on National Championship run, but I thought we WOULD make a strong bid for the FFF (“Football Final Four”) this time—announce our “re-ascension” to the annual spotlight and the regular claim to that status AND the recruitment of players who will get and KEEP us there;
Our high-profile strength in Florida, here and now and GROWING, promises that and more.
No one saw the Pandemic coming. Aside from some SciFi and/or dystopian Thriller writers, no one could.
I really can’t say (certainly no better than anyone ELSE) how it all will end up affecting our season or final won/loss record—but as I say, I just have a bad feeling about it all. Certainly the results in the more or less “random selection” of match-ups we’ve been exposed to thus far have only further clouded and scrambled expectations. So far even TODAY’S (it is the titular “second Saturday”, and I’ve got Syracuse/North Carolina on in the background—MORE hard-to-evaluate results, with a team’s OFF-season history, approach and preparation so far as much a determinant of success and outcome as anything else...Syracuse’s “missed opportunities on offense” looks like will eventually cost it this one, despite tough defense against an otherwise high-potential Tar Heel offense under Mack Brown, which I think will eventually have them pull away).
Eventually “talent will tell”—but how deep into the “season” will we have to go before ANY of these teams will “play themselves into shape”?!! What kinds of upsets will we see BEFORE then? And what about playing in empty stadiums? Then there’s “Covid” itself...What programs might be stricken, find itself losing players to “positive tests”? The questions go on and on. Talk about an “ASTERISK”!!!
There’s likely to be a BIG one on THIS particular season and ITS eventual “National Champion”—actual or “imaginary”.
For now, at least, we are back to a “MYTHICAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP”—“Mythical” the semantic equivalent of that symbol, the common little “asterisk”!
Ah well. Personally, no matter what I say, no matter how I feel, I WILL pound my chest and cheer loudly if and when it is the GATORS who are able to claim that title at the end of this one, “asterisk” (or “semantic equivalent“) and all!

I disagree that the mythical national championship has an asterisk. The UCF Knights claim a mythical national championship, and it is plastered on their stadium, printed into their media guides, and featured in their recruiting resume. Now one thing that has changed since I wrote the original post in this thread is that the CFP has stated that they are going to name a CFP champion in January--regardless if all five Power-5 conferences play or not. What this means it that barring a major coronavirus outbreak the Florida Gators are in the running for an official national championship if they go undefeated this year, or lose at most one game at the same time other teams lose one game. Some team that plays in the spring will try to claim that mythical national championship if they play 10+ games without a loss.

Well, SOMETHING about this whole discussion (if NOT the “2020 National Championship”) is gonna have SOME kind of “phantom asterisk”—call it what you like—attached to it “IN SPIRIT”, if you will—BUT WHAT ELSE IS NEW?!!
One way or another, there’s been something LIKE IT “attached” to every “Title” attached to whatever team, school or program that was so “named” publicly at the end of EVERY SEASON, YEAR AFTER YEAR for ALL those years FOREVER LEADING UP TO NOW; if anything, we will “WEAR IT WITH PRIDE, ALL THE MORE!!!”

Now that the B1G has decided to play, that is the majority of the Power 5, with nobody really considering the PAC-12 to be a contender. There will be no asterisk behind the CFP championship. Out of the 130 FBS teams, nearly 100 plan on fielding a team barring a major COVID outbreak. The CFP announced they will crown a champion. The NCAA has eased the bowl eligibility rules just in case the bowl sponsors decide to have an abbreviated bowl season. All that the bowl sponsors need is 80 teams for 40 bowls, which they now have. The only monkey wrenches (again, barring a major COVID outbreak) are conference tie-ins and financial trade-off. The next question is whether is make sense to hold bowl games with 25% to 50% attendance (assuming we can get to 50% attendance later in the season).

Can’t really argue with your logic there...but if anything, my point all along here is how LITTLE it really means this time IN THE FIRST PLACE.
BEFORE this latest flip from “The ?-Ten”, it was still “a point of discussion”, at LEAST—but NOW: Well, “less so”, surely...and you’re right: The PAC-12 weren’t IN the discussion coming into 2020 to START with.
Look: Like so much else going on now, by far more than ANYTHING I am mainly just concerned with US—OUR program, schedule, health and performance in the weeks ahead. We do well, there will be the usual attention and rewards! I’ll be the last to worry about (or even further mention) any qualifications (call it “asterisk” or ANYTHING ELSE!). But I THINK it will take that ever-elusive “undefeated season” to get us to the “FFF” and a shot at a Natty THIS time! There are those media prognosticators who speak of various theoretical ways we might have gotten there “with ONE loss“, long as we beat UGA, finally—and a few others who thought that was the one we MIGHT lose CLOSE but still make it into that final round later, under certain circumstances—but the former required some outta conference games that no longer exist, and the latter more or less assumes both UGA AND UF might get in IF we lost close and there weren’t OSU participating, but now THAT has changed.
All in all, looks like we’re gonna have to pull off something we’ve never managed: an undefeated season, and this time one that includes ONLY SEC opponents, the former out-of-conference foes replaced with tougher in-conference ones.
All the more reason I come into this with a tough feeling in my gut as to our chances. But little hesitation to support our guys unquestioningly and with great enthusiasm should we even get ourselves in position to pull it off come the end of the regular season!
As for “the bowl season”, well, THAT’S a “can’o’WORMS” that I can’t even begin to make sense of from here: There were already arguably “too many of ‘em to be meaningful” except from the “more seasonal prep-time advantage” they confer...That all’s likely to only be a MORE “crowded field” argument late THIS year! But again: at this point, I’m just concerned with OUR guys, OUR program, OUR season.

The point is that if the Gators win the national championship this year, it will be an official national championship. No asterisk. The people who get paid to make these decisions have spoken. The only thing still up in the air is how the bowl season will work. All of this goes out the window if 200 million people die due to COVID-19.

All the more so with the “(NOT so) Big Ten”, and now the (UN)Packed 12 have decided to rejoin the rest of us after all!
But as to what WE are to make of it all, as the SEC schedule commences, is its own impenetrable question at this point. Too many unknowns, unknowABLES at the moment; it is likely to be some WEEKS before we’ll have enough FACTS to say much of anything with any confidence. As the SEC team playing their first game with the earliest kickoff time, all we GOT right now is our “HOPES AND DREAMS”!
So GO GATORS! Drill the Kiffiekins—and beyond that, for the moment WHO KNOWS???!!
By the way:
ESPN taking “GAMEDAY” to Miami for the ‘Canes vs ‘Noles matchup on the opening week of SEC play is just plain foolish...Announcing it on their Twitter site with the opening line, “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE U, baby!” was just plain stupid—ludicrous, really. That hasn’t been the case in more than a DECADE, at LEAST...arguably a lot more than THAT. Sure, that game’s decision, not to mention the words “wide right!” DID annually have potential significance back in the day, but at THIS point you really have to wonder who, how and WHY did this choice get made and played in just this manner, publicity-wise. They’ve mainly just made themselves laughing stocks, imho.
