In a whole LOTTA ways!
I figured we had maybe ONE more season with Grantham—Now the “Secret Game of Musical Chairs” has cranked up loudly and slightly out-of-tune out in Coaching Limbo... Who can say what leads where and who does what when or why they DO it, but with all the things falling from the grey “final college football weekend skies”, there just seem too many ways all this can end up biting US, messing with what Gators could only HOPE would permit this still-young-and-building Gator Braintrust to finish “Stage One” in a more organized fashion than circumstances and “current events” would indicate.
Bottomline:-
Let’s see where the pieces fall...
(Lemme finish with a prayer:
“PLEASE give us one more season with Grantham as our DC!”)

I think it is funny that Gator fans on other sites went from wanting Grantham gone to crying about possibly losing him to Mississippi State--all in a matter of a week. This is college football. Head coaches will eventually consider moving to the NFL. Assistant coaches will eventually consider taking head coaching positions. What we should be happy about is the fact that we have an experienced head coach with a decent amount of connections who can probably fill coaching vacancies better than his predecessors.

Dan Mullen had 8 years of head coaching experience before taking the job at Florida. Jim McDeathThreats barely had 2 years of head coaching experience before he took the job at Florida. Will Muschamp had zero head coaching experience before taking the job at Florida. Having head coaching experience exposes a coach to many other head coaches and assistants, which makes it easier for them to find replacement coaches. It would suck to lose Todd Grantham, but I am confident that Mullen can find a suitable replacement if Grantham takes a promotion elsewhere. His $1.8M salary is basically maxed out as an assistant--in college or the NFL. The question for Grantham is whether he is willing to move his family once again. Gainesville is considered to be one of America's best places to raise a family.

I did not think Grantham would leave Florida this year. His oldest son, Corbin, will be graduating high school in a couple months. I know, most fans do not care to factor in family, but Todd Grantham stated that family is why he turned down previous NFL and college offers. He gets paid $1.8M, which is one of the best salaries in college and is higher than many NFL assistant salaries. An NFL head coach with no head coaching experience would likely start no higher than $2M.

If I were king, I would keep Charlie Strong on speed-dial as the successor to Todd Grantham if he were to jump to the NFL in a year. Charlie might take a head coaching position before then, but he is the only one I would consider as defensive coordinator based on available coaches right now.

Also, there was an IMMEDIATE, widespread feeling out among the Gator-Faithful that we’d very quickly FILL THAT ROLE—With the return of Mr C Strong! That might in fact eventually happen, I suppose—but it looks like it WON’T be so certain OR so soon as was thought/feared necessary).
