Kyle Trask was a slight improvement over Feleipe Franks, even though he actually struggled with zone-read and RPO plays. When he was in "Gator Raid" mode, he was hands-down the better quarterback. Here is a comparison between the two:
Feleipe Franks
2018 Florida SEC SO QB 13 188 322 58.4 2457 7.6 8.3 24 6 143.4
2019 Florida SEC JR QB 4 54 71 76.1 698 9.8 9.3 5 3 173.4
Kyle Trask
2019 Florida SEC JR QB 12 237 354 66.9 2941 8.3 8.8 25 7 156.1
Kyle was 13 points better in passer rating, 8% better in completion rate, 1 touchdown better, and 1 interception worse than Feleipe. Kyle definitely aired it out more than Feleipe, but then again, Dan Mullen did adapt the offense to more of a "Gator Raid" in order to cover up weaknesses with the running game and Kyle's lack of comfort with zone-read and RPO plays.
Feleipe was trending upwards in his QB skills before the injury, but there is not enough data to be conclusive.
Here is a quick look at Feleipe vs Kyle as runners:
Feleipe Franks
2018 Florida SEC SO QB 13 110 350 3.2 7 2 12 6.0 0 112 362 3.2 7
Kyle Trask
2019 Florida SEC JR QB 12 63 8 0.1 4 1 4 4.0 0 64 12 0.2 4
Feleipe almost makes up for his lack of passing yards with rushing yards, but it is clear that despite Kyle's lack of mobility that Kyle brings more production to the Gators than Feleipe. This is not a knock against Feleipe, because the stats are somewhat close, and Feleipe was trending upwards before injury. As a team, the Gators scored 22 points per game in 2018 (#108), but they scored 35 points per game in 2019 (#22).
