Florida Gators Recruiting Class of 2020

Here is the 2020 recruiting class: https://www.gatorenvy.com/threads/florida-gators-2020-recruiting-class.19932/. Note that I never put E.J. Smith on the recruiting tracker, because he was never a viable recruit for UF no matter what the fans wanted. On that page I do track the de-commitments (7), and their ultimate destinations. I also track the targets and their destinations. This class only had two defections: WR Jeremiah Johnson (unsigned) and DE Morven Joseph (Tennessee), which shows that this class was solidified back in September for the most part. The Gators really only missed on RB and LB. They would have liked another WR, so they could try to reclaim Jeremiah Johnson or find a transfer.

With WR Xzavier Henderson's commitment, the Florida Gators have the #7 class in the nation, up one spot from #8. Even if the Gators add another 5*, they cannot climb any higher than #6--about 280.8 points. It would take the addition of 3 5* athletes in order to surpass Ohio State at #4, or 2 5* athletes to surpass LSU at #5.
  1. Clemson 23 commits 311.90 points 6 5* 11 4*
  2. Alabama 26 Commits 310.39 points 3 5* 19 4*
  3. Georgia 20 commits 301.64 points 3 5* 14 4*
  4. Ohio State 25 commits 295.21 points 2 5* 14 4*
  5. LSU 22 commits 294.01 points 2 5* 14 4*
  6. Texas A&M 23 commits 280.22 points 1 5* 13 4*
  7. Florida 25 commits 271.64 points 0 5* 17 4*
  8. Auburn 24 commits 270.97 points 1 5* 13 4*
  9. Oklahoma 23 commits 260.31 points 0 5* 15 4*
  10. Texas 17 commits 259.27 points 1 5* 12 4*
  11. Michigan 27 commits 258.31 points 0 5* 14 4*

Can't wait to see Anthony Richardson on the show (and probably a good chance on the field because players can some a few games before deciding on a redshirt or not).

I just added 3* WDE/ OLB Noah Keeter, who is transferring from UCLA by way of Bucholz High School, Gainesville, Florida. He will be giving up his scholarship at UCLA to be a preferred walk-on with his hometown Gators. By rule, he cannot get back on scholarship this year.

The Gators can add two more "counters" to this class.

Remaining targets:
  • S Avantae Williams 4* (Florida, Ole Miss, Miami, or Oregon)
  • RB Ashaad Clayton 4* (Colorado or LSU)
  • RB Henry Parrish 4* (Florida, Miami, or South Carolina)
  • DE Princely Umanmielen 4* (Baylor, Oklahoma, Auburn, or Florida)
  • ATH Demarcus Beckwidth 3* (Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky)
  • OC Sedrick Van Pran 4* (Georgia, Alabama, Florida)
Remaining targets in the transfer portal:
  • WR Justin Shorter, Penn State
  • OG Terrance Davis, Maryland
  • DE Quincy Roche, Temple
  • RB Zachary Evans, Texas
Remaining targets working through visa issues:
  • OL Wardrick Wilson (Bahamas)
My guess is that Florida gets Justin Shorter and Wardrick Wilson to close out this class.

The Gators replace 4-star S Avantae Williams with 4-star SDE Princely Umanmielen. Williams is the only player that the Gators really missed out on, but in defense of the Gator recruiting staff, the Gators need defensive linemen more than they need safeties. 4-star WR (and brother to CJ Henderson) Xzavier Henderson appears to have overcome his academic qualification issues and signed with Florida as expected.

The only remaining player is 2019 4-star recruit, Wardrick Wilson, who is still struggling with visa issues in the Bahamas.

The Gators at #8 in the major recruiting services, #6 in the SEC, #1 in the state.
  1. Georgia 313.34
  2. Alabama 310.44
  3. Clemson 309.73
  4. LSU 300.54
  5. Ohio State 295.08
  6. aTm 289.49
  7. Auburn 274.60
  8. Florida 274.36
  9. Texas 270.93
  10. Tennessee 261.50
  11. Oklahoma
  12. Oregon
  13. scUM
  14. Michigan
  15. Penn State
  16. Washington
  17. Notre Dame
  18. South Carolina
  19. North Carolina
  20. Nebraska
  21. Stanford
  22. FSU
  23. Kentucky
  24. Arizona State
  25. Wisconsin
The Gators finished with a recruiting ranking of 274.36, which was less than a point behind behind Auburn. The Gators would have needed to sign Sedrick Van Pran, Avantae Williams, and Demarkcus Bowman (using actual uncommitted targets) in order to be ranked behind Ohio State (295.08). The Gators would have needed Zachary Evans in order to be ranked behind Clemson (309.73).

Hypothetically, the Gators have an adjusted ranking of #5 (approximately 296.19) using transfers Brenton Cox, Lorenzo Lingard, and Justin Shorter. Normally it is a knock against a coach when they rely on the transfer portal, but Dan Mullen had 10 years of experience at Mississippi using transfers, and this was before the advent of the transfer portal. Mullen is unique in his ability to bring in a mix of 3-star and 4-star/ 5-star athletes via transfer. None of the other top-10 programs other than Alabama and Ohio State are getting blue chip athletes through the transfer portal.
