Sigh. There was the game. Well, we will nust have to get there the slow way--but I'd give him another chance long...
Meanwhile, Perrine continues to flounder...ah, here's a ten-yarder for him. That is like GOLD for us now.
If we can just keep possession and drive this in, we'll be fine. Driving on them now. Oops--almost a giveaway on the handoff from Emory Jones.
Hand it to PIERCE!! AND THEY DO! TD!

ALRIGHT. NOW we have officially put this away; y'all can even afford to let Emory play the rest of the way.

I thank you all, Gator Friends...I remain worried about the BIG ones ahead... In fact NO: NOT "worried", rather I am pessimistic regarding our chances. I figure with our schedule we will win one fewer game than last season...MAYBE, staying healthy, we can match last season, but no better. Just missing too many pieces.
Meanwhile, I just lost cable...am switching over to streaming, but aside from taking a coupla minutes, even with my high speed internet the game'll then stream about e0 seconds to a minute behind cable-- so I apologize in advance for that. There, got it back online--but I'll definifely be lagging behind y'all now. Fortunately, game no longer in balance...
So what do Y'ALL think? You figure I've been to hard on them. Does anyone still believe this is a Championship-quality Gator team? Even WITH all our injured back and fully healthy?
I now believe we are TWO FULL YEARS away--and even THAT assumes two SUPERB recruiting classes in the interim.

Anyway, way to go here, Gators. A lot was learned here today--by you AND us.
This IS a GRITTY Florida squad, no DOUBT about that. We will win the close ones, that much we HAVE proven. And we do have some depth at skill positions...just not quite ENOUGH of them.
I like this team... But if you are waiting for Championships, well, we are not there yet: they will disappoint you.
Next up, bit of a breather against Towson, I think... We may not be good enough to "have a party" facing SEC teams, but I suspect we'll run it up on our next opponent. It had better NOT swell our heads too much, though. After THAT comes Auburn--and then it gets REALLY tough. Sigh. We still MIGHT be "the 2nd best team in the SEC East"'--but even if that's so, it ain't anything I'M willing to crow about--or settle for!
Where are y'all at about all that?

Good win. This was the first 300-yard passing game since Tebow was on campus. The Gators are still working out plays to bolster the running game, which I assume is what the team will focus on against Towson.

We'll be getting back most of our star deep cover guys AND injured "fast backs" over the next coupla weekends--that should give us more flexibility in our play calling and more depth all around...
We need a better running game--as in, "SOME kind of 'running game' at ALL"--but you began to see it as the game wore on even with the limited cast on hand so far today: we were slowly wearing them down, AND consequently we were finally gaining traction at the end. With a healthy defense and a running game, we ought to be able to compete on a level playing field with the Auburns and LSUs, at the very least anyway. I don't buy EITHER as greatly less-flawed than us, come right down to it: I have been combing the online highlights all aft and evening and have come to that realization. We have holes and inconsistencies--and so do they!
Still, though, I doubt we are quite up to the standards of Clemsen or the Tide, however. But based on their showing against Notre Dame between the hedges tonight, though, healthy, ready, with a good game plan and the right collective attitude we MIGHT be up to be beating UGA, though, come the Cocktail Party.
I know, I know, I am sounding remarkably optimistic compared to earlier, while watching us against the Vols--but that is as much a function of our continued tough resiliency, against the subsequent backdrop of practically everyone ELSE'S relative ineptitude, as anything else.
Gotta keep learning, growing, getting healthy and cutting down on our self-defeating errors...and the rest will take care of itself.
We still most assuredly are NOT a championship caliber team...But with continued work and further effort in the same direction on the road we are already on, we might eventually find ourselves within hailing distance of BECOMING one after all.
For now, we can take a certain pride and hope in the very real progress we have made, after all. That's more than I gave us credit for even a few short hours ago.
I now can once more really begin to envision the moves our Coach and staff might manage in order to get us there.
For better or worse, good or ill, I feel a resurgence of that dangerous and powerful thing that can be either real or illusory:
It is called "HOPE"!

Edit: Trask was a few yards shy of 300. This was the most passing yardage in a game since Austin Appleby in 2016, and most multiple game 250 yard games since 2010 under Tebow.

Normally, "game manager" has become a sort of back-handed compliment nowadays--but in seeing it done right by young Trask it is in a sense restored to its original positive connotation: At his best and surprisingly most of the time ("surprisingly" for a kid who has basically NEVER STARTED A GAME AT THIS LEVEL), Kyle proceeded to MANAGE this game and TEAM in confident, efficient fashion most of the way. There is a CALM that descends over the offense with him in there; Even when things AREN'T necessarily going all that smoothly or well around him (we lacked a running game for much of the day--only finally got some traction there in the 4th quarter and he and the offense were able to FINALLY put this one away), even when HE (finally) made some mistakes-born-of-lack-of-experience (a couple of poor throwing decisions on successive plays in the 4th qtr that COULD have sunk us--had our D not stayed steady) and Trask not seemed to rightly just put it behind him, show and lead his team in quickly recovering and reassert themselves at the first opportunity.
All in all a very encouraging performance in every possible way.
