The Football Writers Association of America named Florida MLB David Reese II the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after logging a career-high 16 tackles (13 solo). Reese is the team's leader in total tackles (23), and is tied for 7th in the SEC with 7.7 tackles per game. The last Gator to have 16 tackles in a game was LB Antonio Morrison (2015 vs Ole Miss). Reese will be added to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List for the award which goes to the best defender in college football.

We'll (FINALLY) be starting to get a lot of our star defenders and "fastbacks" back from nagging injuries over the next coupla weeks, from what I hear--just in time for them to reconnect in the larger schemes of things and bolster what has developed into deeper, more widely experienced squads both offensively AND defensively. Timing is about right--best we coulda hoped for here:
Barring FURTHER such injuries, we should be hitting our stride (well, about as close to "our stride" as this roster can be counted on to produce, at any rate) for the proverbial "meat" of our SEC schedule. I have no real idea or FEEL for how good a team that translates to on the field.
