Damnit--we "OUTPLAYED OURSELVES" in that half. One thing is certain: The teams on the field are evenly matched: SHOULD be 7-6 FOR US. The difference obviously has been the mistakes.
And at the risk of beating this into the ground: today, more than before, we have had a complete demonstration of why and how MUCH Franks limits the potential of this offense--ANY offense, long term.
Does the fanbase see it? Do they understand what MUST be done come the offseason and beyond? Even if it means a step back at first (learning curve), I believe Mullen himself already KNOWS: He must get a whole lot more UPSIDE into the QB position. Like it or not, even without that fumble you are all LOOKING at "about the best this Gator offense can be against a decent defense with Franks at the helm".
Now tell me:
IS IT ACCEPTABLE?

(Sorry: Just frustrating to realize that with even a "pretty good" passer, we'd have the lead here, despite everything else.)

Halftime grades:
  • Offense = D+. Franks has his ups and downs. Running backs are fine when they are not fumbling. Receivers are a little lazy.
  • Defense = C. Bend, but do not break.
  • Special teams = B+. This would have been an A- if the referees called holding on Georgia.
  • Coaching = A-. The players need to execute what is called.

Once we DO get a decent QB, though, I foresee us DOMINATING UGA for YEARS to come: Kirby ain't so "smart", clearly: OUR Coach is smarter and, given the tools he'll eventually have, better (I think MUCH better) than theirs.
Fact is, with all that happened when and HOW it happened, they SHOULD have. blown us out and been ready to step on our NECKS by now...Instead we're still down less than a TD.
But fact still remains: I always figured it would take either at least ONE long one over the top, or at least a coupla takeaways by OUR D to pull this one out; I STILL think that is the case, more than ever--but that means it is on our (Grantham's great, but gotta be tired) defense--because Franks is NOT gonna get it done--and by now Mullen knows it, FOR SURE--and he won't count on that making the difference from here: Oh, he may TRY one "just for goggles and to keep 'em honest", but he'll try for ball control, our D to stopvthem and MAYBE nip them at the end...
Bigger picture, though, no matter what, by now (and certainly in this game's aftermath) our Head Coach, in his heart-of-hearts KNOWS what he must do goimg into the spring and beyond: REPLACE FRANKS AS THE STARTER for '19...Hopefully begin the "Jones Era" at UF.

Franks finaly throws that "dart"--and we have the lead. Weird. But fine with me.

Great throw if he could just do that constantly. Gators up chomp chomp
That's the catch, of course. And it's why he's still the QB THIS year. But imagine if we had a QB who COULD do that every time. That's what we need to be, where we need to go.

Oh oh. This is where we came in today.
"Gotta stop Holyfield". I think that was my first post here at game's start.
