Should Teryl Austin be fired?

Not sure if he's the problem there. They're in need of getting some more "big uglies"--and being allowed to freely play his freshmen, if what we're hearing about Meyer nixing that in many cases is actually true.
Also, as we've been discussing on other threads here, tonight (and at times last couple of weeks, too) the offense did the defense NO favors, gave them no help by keeping them on the field--virtually the WHOLE DAMN GAME.

YEAH! the D was playing like no joke 40 something minutes tonight

I think it was better than 45 (!). That's unheard of--and the disparity was worse before the last qtr., when it was "over" and the Gators actually moved the ball a bit on offense. There is no way to overstate how completely and badly we stunk up the place tonight on offense. At HOME, in The Swamp, against Spurrier and SC. I thunk this OUT DOES ZOOK and his MSU embarassment. The difference? Well, it is Meyer. But I think if the level of impatient disgust were to rise high enough, quickly enough, the pressure would rise as well, and Foley COULDN'T ignore it anymore.

i think the defense held their own for how much they were on the field. they gave up a ton of rushing yards but they kept them in the game for a long time. I also dont think this defense is as talented as some of the others have been. losing haden, spikes and dunlap among others are pretty big losses. ahmad black is an absolute stud and so is janoris jenkins. hes gone head to head with 3 of the best receivers in the country and pretty much shut them all down. aj greens touchdown came when he was guarded by someone else.

They played a hell of a game to keep us in it as long as they did, shoot i feel sorry for them having to play over 3 quarters of the game. we still had a chance in the end but guess what addazio does "Lets send Brantley back in and run the dive and swing pass"

It certainly wasn't their fault what happened out there--but that sort of disparity between "O" and "D" can lead to a locker-room split, where on gets mad at the other for PUTTING them in that position, "in front of the world!". THAT would be as bad or worse than the ONfield problems.

I'm backtracking from my earlier comments

I give him one more year, see what Powell, Floyd, and others can do when Trattou and Lemmens leave.

OK--But he doesn't seem to want to play them much, not when and where it counts...as I've asked elsewhere, just when and where did this apparent resistance to playing freshmen come from? What about the idea of starting to get them worked in and ready for NEXT year?
Oh, but that's right: "Trattou and Lemmons graded out as champions". You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me.

McCarney is in charge of which defensive line players are on the field for each play. That being said, he no doubt receives pressure from above to play the seniors. Even if he wanted to start other guys at DE, Meyer would trump his decision. It's kind of hard for a position coach to tell his head coach that he is benching two guys that "grade out as champions" each and every week. I feel bad for the position that McCarney has been put in.

When it comes to personnel. Austin only decides which cornerbacks are in. Other than that he calls the overall formation. But personnel in other areas are decided by the position coaches. Heater calls in his safeties. Durkin calls in his linebackers. And McCarney calls in his linemen.

No offense to Lemmens and Trattou but there is no way in hell anyone can tell me they are more athletic then Easley and Powell. Powell is playing at line backer on some plays but our defensive rush this year has been dismal. QB's have way to much time to throw the ball. I have personally watched Lemmens and this guy can not shed a block consistently. Hes has all the heart in the world as well as Trattou but I just have a hard time believing they are the best we can put on the field. I watch other teams and I see freshman playing important roles and I am left wondering why these guys have not started on the line? Do they not practice good, are they not attending class, why are so many of our freshman " getting in the dog house of coaches"? Whats really going on at Florida? I am all for freshman having to prove themselves and doing all the right things on and off the field, but just because a guy is a senior does not give him the right to start. This year has been all about excuses with our freshman from Debose " looking like a deer in a headlight", "just not ready", to Easley " being in the dog house", " has to do what we ask" every week its something. Why are we having so much problems with what some would say is the best recruiting class ever. We are left with no answers cause Meyer has closed practices to media. All we ever get is spins and excuses yet he has yet to give us a clear cut answer why our offense sucks. All the questions are starting to pile up but we continue to get no answers.

Freshmen have a hard time adjusting to Meyer's system. It's generally understood that Meyer runs the most serious and demanding practices of any head coach out there. There really isn't any laughing or joking around at all. That's tough for a high school superstar to jump right into. What helps in this situation is leadership. We've had folks step up as leaders but I think that best leaders out there are born with their abilities. Pouncey was put in a situation where we needed him to step up as a leader. It was kind of put on his shoulders. And he tries to carry that burden. But he's just not a natural born leader. About the only person I see out there who has that born in talent is Burton. But he's just a freshman too. He's still trying to find his place. He'll definitely be a hardcore leader in the future. But in the meantime we don't have any upperclassmen like him. Pouncey and Black can put forth a noble effort. And I applaud them for it. But they just don't have that special intangible something that a leader has to have.

A leader also has to play well on the field. Maybe Trattou and/or Lemmens has that leadership ability. But I guarantee the defensive guys out there don't respect their physical abilities. That plays a major role in the matter. Take Brandon Spikes for instance. He was an excellent leader. And I actually think he didn't have all the intangibles that a leader is born with. His leadership came from his presence on the field. He was a force to be reckoned with physically and mentally. Guys around him saw this and looked up to him for it. That's how he led.
