Offense vs UGA

the defense needs to improve but im not going to touch on that in this post. the offense looked the best it has all year on saturday. there were still mistakes that need to be corrected, such as penalties and turnovers, but here are some of the things i noticed.

-rainey is much more effective at running back than receiver.
-this offense resembled the 06 offense, using brantley to throw, which he did well aside from some high throws, and burton to run. i would mix in an occasional run from brantley and occasional pass from burton to keep defenses honest
-using demps and rainey in the backfield kept them both fresh and both were used effectively. moody being off the field clearly didnt hurt us.
-the dive play is much more effective when u have the threat of burton and running the option on the outside.
-thompson made some nice catches.
-omarius hines came up with some big first down catches.

carl moore didnt seem as involved with the offense, probably because of making room for burton and rainey on the field. if debose can get healthy and get on the field with this group this offense has a chance to become pretty explosive.

I loved the offense during the UGA game. Sure, I disagreed with some of the plays called, but I really appreciated the coaching staff mixing things up and overall running a more effective and creative offense.

Agreed on all points. One thing to keep in mind is that we are stuck with the Dive, Dive, Dive. So, it is best to learn to like it, at least when Rainey and Demps are healthy and Burton or Reed are at QB.

I did not realize how big Reed is. Wow. I hope the coaches keep him in mind whenever we need someone to soften up the middle.

Well I'm sorry to be the disgruntled UF fan but the offense still looked like crap. Yes we did move the ball at times but two of our touch downs were set up by UG turnovers. One was a break away run by Burton. We still showed no offensive consistency. The formations were different with all the motions and Burton and Reed going behind center but the plays were the same (read dive, read dive, short pass, read dive). What we really lack is offensive creativity. UG threw deep balls well on us and for reasons unknown our receivers cant get open or Brantley cant find them. I did see on numerous plays were Brantley would lock is eyes down field towards one side. He does a horrible job scanning the field and making tough throws. I hate to say it but it looks like Brantley choose the wrong school. He should of stayed with Texas. Whats makes this even worse is he will come in next year as the starter knowing Driskel, Burton, and Reed are better fits for this offense unless we get a different guy calling these plays. I think our defense is weak right now but I believe it will be a lot better once Trattou and Lemmens move on and we can get two better athletes in there. The only reason these two start is Meyer likes to play seniors. They have heart and I will give them that but the lack athleticism. The line backers will get better with game experience. I hope our offensive line is better next year. One area we will improve on is at center. Pouncey will be gone and we can get a center who knows how to snap a freaking ball in there. I know we lose some more people at the O-line so I will have to wait and see how that pans out. So far I will have to say and people will disagree but this is the worse coaches team, worse display of execution on both sides of the ball and special teams I have seen. I believe the coaches have failed these players.

Creativity - Let's face it, we are no longer going to see creativity or innovation. Urban Meyer peaked with his creativity in 2006. He can draw up great pictures on the board for Dazzler Addazio to put into the playbook, but as others have pointed out, it is hard to read the plays in the playbook through the Cheet-ohs and miscellaneous substances on the pages of the playbook.

Consistency - Well, if we have no creativity, we should have consistency with the three plays we run, right? I am okay with the lack of consistency, because I wanted the coaches to deviate from the crappy, unimaginative offense they have been using. By changing mid-season, the consistency will only get worse. I am okay with gambling, because I don't care if we win the SEC East this year. I just want to build for 2011 now and stop getting embarrassed.

Defense - I don't get it. We have the players. We have the speed. It just seems we lack team chemistry on defense.

Offensive line - "The offensive line is one of our strengths." Ha ha ha ha ha ha. In the first half, the o-line showed that it could hold the line for about 4 seconds. That's just long enough for JB to throw the ball. That was set up by the Burton and Reed plays where the o-line held the line for about 1 second. With those two guys in there, we do not need to hold the line as long. Recommendation: keep alternating between the two sets of QBs to cover up the fact that the offensive line is NOT one of our strengths.

Pouncey - Fat@$$ gets a category of his own. Snap the ******* ball, ***********!

The Coaches - This is who we are stuck with, fellas. Learn to love 'em. All we can hope is that Urban Meyer hires some fresh assistants from time to time who will help him add new wrinkles to his game plan. He credited Azzani with some plays. I would guess that some new plays were developed by Loeffler. Have they failed the players? I would say so. These are the guys we are stuck with until the next 3-game losing skid when the heat will be on again. As long as we beat Vandy and Appalachian State, I think Foley is not going to pull the chain on Meyer. Meyer can redeem himself by taking in new ideas from his coaches, changing up little things with his offense, or riding on playmakers.

Yep. It pains me to criticize those two but they simply don't have the physical tools necessary to be starting defensive ends for the University of Florida. Lots of brains and heart but no freak athletic ability that we've been used to having. Hopefully Willy Green can make a miracle improvement like Jaye Howard did. And hopefully the young guys like Powell get up to speed as well.

im not saying that the offense has arrived by any means, but they did have 450 yards. thats pretty good. they'll have to keep improving but yesterday was a step in the right direction.

Given the constraints of this offense, these players, these coaches, and this time of the football season, this is the only arrival we are going to get. I just realized that in a past post I stated that I will stop being so negative, so here it is--this was a step in the right direction as constrained by our current situation. All we can hope for is that the new wrinkles are not figured out by a better coach than jack@$$ Mark Richt. For example, Steve Spurrier. Smart guy. He knows how to re-energize an offense by swapping out QBs--he's done it. He can learn our offense, both pages of it, rather easily. He has beaten Urban Meyer once when the Gators were struggling in '05. We don't have a superstar.

Back to being optimistic, the team we saw in the first half can definitely beat squeak out enough wins to win the SEC East. Do I think it will happen? I don't want to get over-confident.
