Balance: Positive Thoughts

I have noticed that things have been getting a little negative here. We may have lost a couple members due to our negativity, and the forums may be losing their fun factor if all we do is pull an Addazio and keep calling the same play over and over on the forum--negative comments, the sky is falling, fire Urban Meyer, etc. Let's do something that the Gator offensive coordinator cannot do--balance the negative with some positive rather than doing the same thing over and over. I'll start.

Trey Burton. This guy is my favorite stud on the Gators. 8 TDs rushing, 1 receiving. I bet this guy will surprise us when he unleashes the dragon and starts throwing. I'm not saying he will pass as well as Brantley, but I am saying that he may be better than we assume.

Johnny Brantley. I cannot say that I have been fair to this guy in all my bashings. He would probably be a Heisman-worthy QB under a different system that maximized his playing potential. I just wish he were a more vocal leader, but not necessarily rah-rah Tim Tebow vocal.

Andre Debose. That kid may be the stupidest sumbitch I've ever seen, but he sure is fast! [Name the move that quote came from.]

Chas Henry. Okay, so he missed a critical FG. For the most part, he executes when he has to. He has nailed 67% of his kicks, but his long is only 39 yards. However, he punts better than any other punter I can think of with a long of 75 yards and a net of about 50 yards.

Carl Moore. This guy has seriously graded like a champion, as in the real meaning of that word and not the meaning that Urban Meyer apparently uses. 15 yards per catch for Mister Clutch Receiver.

The Good Jelani Jenkins. Jenkins has a twin on the field. Don't judge #1 by the actions of his twin. When the good Jenkins is on the field, people throw to the other side of the field.

Meyer was asked if Steve Addazio is being spread too thin in his dual role as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. The play-calling was booed several times in the second half of Saturday’s game, including on the go-ahead touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter.

“He’s got a tough job,” Meyer said. "He can handle it. He showed it a year ago and he’s showing it now. I try to evaluate everything. I have a lot of confidence in the offense as well.

Here's your answer. The above 2 paragraphs come from an interview with Urban Meyer, Tues. morning I believe (Oct. 12). More bland self-delusion from our erstwhile Head Coach. There is no cause for optimism now. Our program is headed downhill in accelerating confusion, denial and ineptitude. These sites offer at the very LEAST an opportunity to vent our deepening frustration and disappointment, and perhaps with enough of us calling it the way it is the air of complacency at large can be broken. I don't know that it can make any difference, but what else is there? Turn my back on my Gators? Can't do it.

As much as I agree with you, I am trying. You will still see me vent negative stuff about 99% of the time, but I am trying to keep a 1% balance of positive.

Addazio stated, as quoted by someone on Twitter, "Neither boos nor booze will change my play calling". After I saw that I thought, "Oh yeah, MFer! Let's see how effing loud the friggin' stadium can get with booing your @$$." Then I took a chill pill and came up with this maybe positive thread.

Come to think of it, thanks for not letting me go all Urban Meyer on everyone and live in a delusional state. And now back to our normal programming.

Hines, Debose, & Hammond - I think can be a real good playmakers if they got more chances

plus we got dunkley, patton, dunbar, & clarke hopefully coming in ready to ball next yr and christian at TE

and all our D-line will be better next yr i think with all those kids from 10 class getting bigger and stronger

we will should have a pretty sick offense next yr if big changes are made

if big changes are made (copied & pasted from YOUR last post)...

Yeah, and if the Real Urban Meyer is allowed to re-assume control of his own body over that of the Bland Zombie Fool currently in charge, we'll be back on track towards inevitable greatness and national dominance by the end of this season.
Somewhere along the line, however, his body and our program were hijacked by Urban Deny-er, who in turn gave full control to Steve Out-of-Phazio, and these evil trickster demons run rampant while we wring our hands and look for "signs of hope and improvement".
I'm thinking some kind of Native American burning ceremony is in order--but I'll settle for an exorcism or even a large crowd chanting and ringing gongs Budhist-style. Things have gotten that desperate, far as I can see.

Before we get to 2011, we need to see growth in a few potential playmakers. Let's pretend that there are no changes in 2010. In our next loss or two, which youngster is likely to grow up the most?

Andre Debose. This kid appears to have the most mojo.

Johnny Brantley. He's not a kid, but with these numbers he cannot leave for the draft. I have to assume he will return so he can light up the scoreboards as we thought he would in 2010. Incoming frosh QB Jeff Driskel has a lot of drive, ambition, and skill to push JB.

Matt Elam. This one might become our stud on defense.

Jeremy Brown. If Jenkins leaves for the draft, he becomes the primary CB. He shows a lot of potential.

Carl Moore. So far, he has shown a penchant for clutch receptions.

Omarius Hines. I'm still waiting for his coming out party. He shows a lot of potential.

Trey Burton. He needs to get better at receiver, RB, or TE so he can make those his primary positions. He's good at all, but a master of none. I doubt he can emerge as a viable QB battling JB and Driskel. 2010 is his year to shine and pick an emphasis.

Jeff Demps needs to stay healthy as the old guy who will be stuck running the Dive.

When Demps gets hammered doing the Dive, who will step up? Gillislee? Rainey? Hines?

I see a lot of potential on offense. Not so much on defense. I assume our two post-it note offense will not change, so the main players in the Dive need to step it up.

On Defense, it looks like the 4-3 works well for transition to 5-2, but our secondary needs to pick up slack when we stack the box. I don't see a lot there yet.

YES it was, By Enos from Dukes of Hazzards playing (and I kid you not) Bear Bryant. Trust me if you seen Dukes, it was a odd choice to play the Bear.

Now, if Enos from Dukes of Hazzard is not a positive thought, then I don't know what is! I am POSITIVE that Enos would be a better OC than Addazio.

Positive thoughts Hmmmmm well 2 losses so far is not as bad as it once was, (here is where I'll lapse into the when I was your age adage) I remember the bad old days where 500 was a good season and beating the mangy dawgs was a good season. I don't think it is realistic to expect a National championship bid every season. I just want us to play our best every game and the rest will take care of itself. I would like to see Refs come from a national pool and make sure they can all pass mental and physical tests that ensure they can at least get out of the way of the players. No more conference supplied REFS. all rules and penalties are the same across all conferences. And yes I do think team loyalties by certain refs in certain games do result in bias. Human nature, OK I'm done spouting off GO Gators!!!

THANK YOU! finally some positive stuff on here. I get on here and read all negative comments from everybody. Its not the end of the world people. I trust Urban Meyer. and I trust things will get fixed. Believe it or not I think the ONE problem with the offense is Pouncey's snaps still. bad snap = brantley looks down and takes his eyes off of the play. and when he looks up its a completely different look. he has to find his receivers faster than normal which causes throws that are off timing. the dive play would work if the o-line was healthy and playing their normal positions.

Theres still hope for this season. to ATL!

Another positive thought: orange jerseys. I really like the orange. If there is one play that I don't mind Addazio calling in, it will be the orange jersey call.

I actually think Pouncey's snapping issue is fixed. If you compare his numbers to other centers he is snapping just as well/bad -- however you want to grade the national average. He's actually matching Maurkice's numbers in the bad snap field mid season. Nobody was scrutinizing Maurkice like this though. If you aren't looking for it then you won't see it. But bad snaps happen every single game. It's up to the quarterback to haul them in and keep the timing of the play tight.

true, the problem could be Brantley's trust in Pouncey's snaps. maybe he's looking down just to make sure that he hauls it in correctly.

As far as positives are concerned, Ronald Powell is getting switched to SLB so we should see more of him. The linebackers need a deeper field to rotate from. So we could see some highlight plays. It's also positive that at least one of our defensive linemen shows the raw power/speed/explosiveness that we've come to expect from UF linemen -- Talking about Jaye Howard here. It's amazing what the kid has done over the off season to improve. He went from somebody who would have had a hard time making an NFL practice squad to somebody who could very well get drafted in the second or third round. Going back to linebackers I'm pleased to see that Bostic and Jenkins aren't just rotating at MLB. We can now see Bostic at MLB and Jenkins on the outside at the same time. I think they are the two best linebackers we have so it's good to see them on the field at the same time. Yes, they will occasionally make youthful errors, but they are also the two best linebackers at making big plays that can change the mood of a game.

I definitely agree that it's an issue. Brantley puts too much focus on the snap and loses his concentration on the defense. He constantly checks down on his reads and throws the short dump off.

I'm reeeally liking the way Trey Burton is playing. He's truly a wildcard. and a mismatch most of the time. plus the kid's effort is unmatched on the team right now.

I was pretty high on Janoris at the beginning of the year. he was playing very well, and shutting people down along with his interceptions. but it seems like he's turned it down a bit. He's a damn good corner.

Gillislee is probably who were looking for in a power back/speedster. he's obviously not as fast as Demps, but he can run over defenders unlike demps. He's the only RB who hasn't lost yards on a play. and thats saying something. if he and Demps can stay healthy, they can be a perfect 1-2 punch.

Carl Moore has been absolutely amazing on most of those third down catches. I'm just wondering why he can't get open on 1st and 2nd down.

MVP of the defense so far - Ahmad Black
MVP of the offense so far - Carl Moore

we have a lot of positives.. i just can't think of none of them. lol..

Seriously. I think our season is still salvagable.. and we can still come away with 3 losses maybe 4. which is what i was expecting. and a chance at the SEC, which I wasn't expecting. So our season is not lost, not anywhere near it. and we have another night game at the swamp this weekend.

the most important positive.. We're all alive and able to cheer our Gators on! and there's another game to be played!

i like the play they run that starts like an option but then brantley pitches it off to a receiver on the reverse. id make rainey or debose the pitch man on this play though, theyre more dangerous in the open field than hines.
