Pat Dooley: Addazio owed a break from Gator Nation

10. "For all of you who are jumping all over Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio, the Back Nine has something to say. Tons of e-mails and Tweets have rolled in and the cliche of all cliches has sprung up — a firesteveaddazio.com website. Just remember this — Steve Addazio held your program together during a crisis. He held together the best recruiting class in the nation when the head coach was too ill to be a major factor and other coaches were negative recruiting.

You at least owe him more than one game this season before you start carving him up."

(My two cents: Our special teams play was nothing to write home about, either - what should have been a blocked punt after Miami's opening drive was almost turned over, Caleb Sturgis missed kicks and Chas Henry miffed a punt - yet I don't see some of these same nincompoops ready to hang Addazio all over DJ Durkin, who took over the special-teams coaching in the off-season.

No wonder why I'm on meds.)

"One more game and that's it"? Don't be ridiculous.

Read and understand the article, and perhaps you may be able to see things more clearly. It's pretty obvious you're missing his point.

"That goes all the way back to last season"?

Explain to me why we went undefeated in the regular season then. Apparently you weren't paying attention.

Saturday's problem was with EXECUTION, NOT the "playcalling".

Addazio play calling last year was suspect at best. Sure we had a solid year, not the year everyone hoped for.. I can see both sides of the coin on this one. Last year our offense could have been soo much better. We will see if things change this year. Not a great start...

We don't live in a perfect world, after all. Still, we managed to finish #3 in the polls and chalk up a BCS bowl in, not to mention have a pretty good showing in the NFL draft as far as where former Gators were taken. Fans just need to be a little more patient with this year's team. Change won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

I really think addazio needs a break from the fans. His play calling may not be flashy and Razzle dazzle but at least it won us games last year. But how can play calling be an issue when half the plays couldn't even be executed properly due to snap and sync issues. Like I said before lets work out the kinks and then worry about the play calling.

Bingo. Get the fundamentals executed cleanly, and that's a start in the right direction. Plays can't be made if they're not executed the right way, no matter which one gets called - and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. So what if it's not the :censored: Fun-n-Gun; as long as we get points on the scoreboard that's what really counts.

I've heard enough from all the chicken-littles, Negative Nancys, Debbie-Downers and other assorted fairweather fans to last me a lifetime. It's a new week, so let's move forward.

Hmmmm. Must have something to do with Addazio already having a full season of questionable play-calling under his belt.

Maybe this is what happens when you have the most talented players, but a coaching staff that has lots its way. We won a game based on sheer luck and pure athleticism. We won't get away with that every week. What's going on with the coaches? One of the coaches has to have noticed the six months of C-QB exchanges. Are they sticking with Pouncey as a favor to a great player who wants to be like his twin brother, or is he really the best man for the job? Does Addazio know the difference between offensive line blocking from the spread versus the I-formation and he is stuck with the personnel recruited and trained solely for spread offense zone blocking? Or, does he genuinely have a plan to make zone-blockers hold the line in the I-formation? Maybe a vocal, Tebow-like leader needs to get a hold of the prima donnas in the locker room and pull the team together. I wish I knew what was wrong, but something is wrong. Unless the Gators have tricked me and the rest of the world by protecting their secrets by playing dead last week, I think we are just seeing a few symptoms of a bigger problem. I sincerely think we have a bunch of prima donnas, we as fans are spoiled, and the coaches are stuck in the middle of it.

And these same spoiled fans who'll gripe even if Urban Meyer has one hair on his head out of place need a good swift kick in the ass. No matter what this team may do that's a positive, they'll still find something to complain about - and it seems as though the coaches are being made the scapegoats. (Hell, by the way some of these fans blame the coaches for everything, I might as well point the finger at them whenever I'm personally having a bad day.)

As much as the Spurrier-worshippers still cry over their spilled milk because he didn't return to UF after Zook was fired, they don't stop to realize that it was, in part, because of some of the ridiculous expectations of our fanbase that he left in the first place. Now it seems that they, as well as others, expect Meyer to be a carbon-copy of SOS offensive-wise. Urban has his own style, and it's been effective - if it wasn't, no effin' way would we have enjoyed the degree of success we have since he's been here. Yet because he and his staff aren't picture-perfect or emulating SOS's style of offense in spite of the fact that we're winning games, they complain.

Too many Gator fans can't seem to see the forest for the trees. It's really getting tiresome.

What's getting tiresome is you calling out fans for being stuck on Spurrier, yet I have not seen one poster on any message board or run across one person at any game that has mentioned Spurrier as consistently (if at all) as you have. Maybe you're running with the wrong crowd, or this whole "obsession with Spurrier" is in your head.

Stop bashing fans who have legitimate gripes with an offense that has not been the same since Addazio took over. No matter how much name calling you do, that's not going to change.

When I have an opinion, agree or disagree, I will say so - I see what I see. I am not going to say things contrary to what I believe because that's what somebody wants to hear - and if they don't like my opinion, too bad. If the shoe fits wear it, I say. It's your prerogative to agree to disagree with me, and perhaps you should stop bashing those who are only exercising their right to have a dissenting opinion.

I'm not bashing anyone. I just don't see why you keep bringing up Spurrier in these discussions before anyone else has, and then proceed to call out people who you say are still obsessed with Spurrier.

Like I said, we must run in very different crowds, b/c outside of SC week, I never hear or see SOS mentioned. Not including your posts, of course.

Like I said, I see what I see. I lurk around out of curiosity and observe other things being said - and form my conclusion from that.

Again, I refuse to say anything because that's what they want to hear. If I think something has no substance or is absurd in my opinion, I'm going to say so. Agree or disagree, that's your right to do so.

The only reason I brought up SOS in this thread was to try and make my point here in this topic - nothing more.
