Florida quarterback Tim Tebow underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Monday morning to remove a bone spur and chronic inflammation.

Tebow, who led Florida to the BCS national title on Thursday with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma, is expected to be able to throw within 3-4 weeks and is expected to be ready to play in spring practice.

Tebow is left-handed, so the surgery is on his non-throwing shoulder.

"The surgery went well," team physician Dr. Pete Indelicato said in a Florida news release. "He should be able to begin throwing in the next three to four weeks and a full recovery is expected."

Tebow was originally injured during the 2007 season, and reaggravated the injury this season against Hawaii.

Tebow announced Sunday at a rally that he plans to return to Florida for his senior season in 2009.

Tebow threw for 231 yards and ran for another 109 in the FedEx Orange Bowl last week. He was named the game's offensive most valuable player.

Tebow threw 32 touchdown passes in 2007, ran for 23 more scores and became the first sophomore to win the Heisman. This season, he completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,746 yards with 30 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also led the team in rushing for the second straight year, gaining 673 yards and scoring 12 times.

Florida coach Urban Meyer said Sunday that receiver Louis Murphy and guard Carl Johnson also were going to have knee surgery.

Timmy should be ready to start participating in mat drills late next month based on his recovery time; if Carl Johnson's having knee surgery that may take longer for him to recover, although I hope that he too will be ready for spring practice.
