First off, by voting "why not", the assumption is that the jersey is not ginormous and that you know enough to wear a shirt underneath it and so on. You also do not tuck it into your jeans so that you've got this huge wad of shirt bulging around your hips.

I've had this discussion with some folks before. There seems to be (at least to me) a recent trend of people thinking that it's stupid for grown men to wear their team's jersey to a football game. The reasons range from "it's dorky" to thinking it looks rather "white trash" or that it looks like an old dude living vicariously through a bunch of kids.

I've attended football games for over 25 years, both college and NFL. I don't wear a jersey everytime as it depends on the weather and other considerations. But I do wear one frequently. It's just part of the atmosphere to me. I don't know where this notion of wearing a polo shirt and khakis while sipping chardonnay became the official gameday attire, but it smacks of snobbery to me.

What do you guys think? Is it much ado about nothing or is this a widespread view that I've been heretofore clueless about?

I think it's fine as long as its not a huge jersey, but almost all jerseys are made really big, so its hard to find one that fits like a normal t-shirt

i dont really think it matters what you wear as long as your supporting the orange and blue,me myself i love jerseys i think their comfortable, i have a blue bubba caldwell, and a white grossman one,ive seen old men with jerseys on and i think they look fine, but like i said i love jerseys.2 questions though why can you not get a florida jersey with any number, like in eastbay you get a customized jersey for any team, but usually they will say florida jerseys can only be number 00,8,96, or 15.Leakbrewer gator where did you get that jersey with the orange shoulder? The only thing i can find around my parts is andre woodson jerseys, who would want that garbage lol.

I got that jersey from a Sports Authority in Tampa. I think Champs Sports carries it too, check out their website.

As far as the numbers go, universities only make certain numbers available so that they don't market individual players. That could call into question the eligibility of the "amateur" athletes.

I don't wear a jersey to a game mainly because at UGA games everyone dresses up with nice pants and a collared shirt, and sometimes a tie. I dont see anything wrong with wearing them though.

When I went to Florida, I bought the blue jersey with an orange shoulder at Champs Sports.

Theres nothing wrong with wearing jerseys IMO, in England it is the most common attire at football (soccer) games. Why not, doesn't it show that the team is bigger, and isn't just the players on the field?
