Fulmer won't say Florida ran it up

By BRYAN MULLEN
Staff Writer

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer is struggling to bite his tongue regarding whether he thinks Florida ran up the score Saturday.

Immediately after the Gators' 59-20 pounding, Fulmer said all the right things.

On Monday, he added a pointed comment or two.
"People choose to do things for their own reasons," Fulmer said. "As I said after the game, it's our job to stop them. We shouldn't have gotten ourselves in that situation. I know there's mixed feelings about that, but I'm not going to sit here and say all I think."

Some of his players did Saturday. Defensive end Xavier Mitchell said Fulmer never would run up the score, and in reference to the Gators, Mitchell said, "What goes around comes around."

Here's my question. Should a team bring their level of play DOWN to match an opponent? I don't think so. I can see if it kept going and going, but why should Florida have taken out their key players other than to avoid injury. That is more or less and extra practice for them....right.

I don't agree with running the score up too bad, but I think Tenn. could have played a little harder and given a closer score.

Mitchell needs to understand this... Tennessee SUCKS! How intelligent of a thought "what goes around comes around", wonder what school would teach that literate message? Aaahhh, Tennessee!

GatorVirgin, I agree 100 percent with scoring as many points as a team can score. Without a doubt it is up to the defense to stop an offense. No way should a player ever be told to "let up" just to be nice! Afterall, it was Tennessee and hopefully next it will be Ole Miss,Auburn,Vandy,Georgia,USCe and Florida State!

also running up the score also helps our rankings
in the bcs they look at stats and look how it helped Oklahoma last week after the miami game in the AP poll

The only time runnign up the score is a bad move is when it is vs a 1AA team. Other than that try to score 100!

RUN IT UP BABY!!!!!
THE MORE THE MERRIER!!!!
2 Weeks ago the GATORS dropped a position because we didn't score like "they" thought we should. Saturday, we got #3 because we beat the puddin out of the Vols.
RUN IT UP!!!!!

i think we really only had our starters out for 1 extra drive

then our backups came in and Tenn still couldn't stop us

How could I forget LSU? I would love to see us run up the score but this is going to be a real nailbiter of a game so I don't see that happening. I believe that if our offense is clicking then it will be impossible for LSU to keep up with us.

I agree. I think we can surprise the nation when we play LSU, just as we did against OSU.
