Will the SEC Expand?

College football fans are probably aware by now that the Big Ten Conference extended invitations to almost 10 teams to join their Conference. Knowing not all of them will join, the Big Ten is expecting to form a super conference of 14 or 16 teams. By grabbing schools from other conferences it will force a frenzy and everyone will have to expand, add new schools or realign. Ultimately turning the college football landscape into 4 Super conferences.

It is said that the Big Ten is going after Notre Dame, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Connecticut, Rutgers or Maryland. The Big Ten has sort of been the laughing stock of the BCS the last five years or so. They've blown it in two National Championship games, several BCS games and just play a boring style of football. The SEC, Big 12 and PAC 10 dominate over the Big Ten ... if the ACC could get their crap together even they would have a better conference.

So let's assume that the Big Ten adds 5 new schools to give them a total of 16. If they take two schools from the Big 12, that will force the Big 12 to add two new schools - one of which is rumored to be Arkansas. If the SEC loses Arkansas, they will be forced to add a team. Who would it be? Let's take a look at a few possibilities:

- Clemson
- Louisville
- Virginia Tech
- Florida State

The SEC will want schools rich in football tradition. They will want a school with a massive stadium, great facilities, and fans that travel. So in my opinion, Clemson would be the number one choice here. If the SEC adds Clemson they would probably go to the East (because of time zones) and Vanderbilt would move to the West because they are a central time zone team.

Imagine and SEC East with Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson, South Carolina, Kentucky. Damn!

Will see how this all unfolds over the next few weeks. What do you think will happen? Post a comment and letme know.
