Top 5 Issues With the Gators Right Now

Mr2Bits

The Gators are coming off an embarrassing loss to Alabama last weekend and things won't get any easier on Saturday when the No. 12 LSU Tigers come to town. LSU almost lost to Tennessee (who the Gators beat comfortably), but they will still be a very tough out. The Gators have a lot of issues to work on right now before they can get back to that top tier of football teams in the nation. Let's take a look at the Top 5 issues with the Gators right now.

1. Offensive Play Calling - I'm not sure if this is all Addazio or if Urban has the final say on what plays are being called. The offensive play calling has not been catered to Brantley and the red zone play calling has been suspect at best.

2. Offensive Line - This all starts with Pouncey and his bad snapping issues. He only had 3 or so bad snaps vs. Alabama (compared to 12+ in the opening game) but that it still too many. You also have Carl Johnson tripping Brantley near the goal line vs. Alabama. They need to play better as a unit.

3. John Brantley - Let's face it. After all the hype this off season, Brantley is a bit of a disappointment. We thought he would be slinging it for 300 yards and 5 touchdowns every game. Now some of this could be the play calling, but I've see Brantley miss wide open guys deep several times - he has a tendency to over throw guys.

4. Running back - Not having Chris Rainey is hurting the Gators. Not having Jeff Demps healthy is hurting the Gators. What was once a position of strength is now an issue the Gators need to fix.

5. Special Teams - This part of the game just hasn't been clicking. We've had a few good returns, but none run back for a touchdown. Sturgis had some issues early on and is now injured. Chaz Henry had to kick field goals last week (though he did a pretty good job).

If the Gators can right these wrongs and get healthy then I think they still have a shot of playing in the SEC Championship Game and possibly winning it.

What do you think are some of the Gators biggest issues right now?
