The Sunday Blog comes at you from the road again. It feels like this whole season has been a long series of away games.
* While it was Florida that was dealing with so many injuries, it was LSU’s injuries that may have made a difference in the game. Let’s start with Leonard Fournette, who wasn’t ready to go until a pre-game skirmish got his adrenaline going. He shouldn’t have played. You could tell he was not himself. He had 40 yards on 12 carries. Then there was Kendall Beckwith, who left the game with a sprained knee. Florida rushed for 26 yards when he was in the game, 120 after he left. But I don’t think Florida fans have a lot of sympathy for the Tigers.
* With South Carolina and Kentucky getting bowl eligible, the SEC now has 10 teams that will be playing in bowl games. Vanderbilt and Ole Miss have a shot at getting bowl eligible on the final weekend. Only Mississippi State and Missouri have been eliminated. Vandy may get in even with a loss because a 5-7 Vanderbilt with its APR would go to a bowl if there are not enough teams with .500 or better records.
* With Florida’s win and Vandy’s win Saturday, the East doubled its win total against the West to four with one game to go (Arkansas-Missouri). Who would have thought that the division would be celebrating 4-9?
* I felt just terrible watching Charlie Strong’s postgame news conference after the Longhorns lost to Kansas. You could see on his face that he knows it’s over. Strong is a really good man, but as Will Muschamp liked to say, you are what your record is. And Strong’s record is 16-20.
