THE FOUR-POINT PLAY, VOLUME TWO

The Four-Point Play comes at you after a long day of basketball although I did sneak in a couple of Mary Tyler Moore Shows.

* Look, nobody is suggesting that LSU or Oklahoma are any good. They are not. One is well-coached but lacking in talent. The other is LSU. Still, to do what Florida did on the road this week was impressive. One thing for sure, this a history-making team. It broke the streak for made threes, then set a record for made threes in a game and just became the first UF team to ever win back-to-back road games by 30 or more points. The three road wins by 30 or more (UNF) is also the most ever.

* Thanks a lot Kentucky for ruining everything. The SEC did way better than a lot of people thought it would in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge, winning five games, Particularly impressive were Auburn on the road over TCU and Tennessee over Kansas State. All the SEC needed was for its bell cow program to win at home and the trophy would have been sent to Greg Sankey’s office. Instead, bleh. Give Bill Self credit. With all that was going on within the program, that is one impressive win.

* I tried to tell everyone that Florida State was a bit of a mirage. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a really talented team with incredible numbers coming off the bench. But the Seminoles achieved their lofty status while playing only two true road games. This week, two road games against unranked ACC foes, two double digit losses. Still, FSU will be an intriguing team to watch.

* As we say RIP to the RPI, it’s still in play this year and it should be noted that the SEC seven teams in the top 60 including Florida at No. 9, That, as much as anything, shows that the league is better. Suddenly, Tennessee is in the NCAA conversation as are Georgia and Auburn.
