...and if that turns out to be the case, the suspensions will have to remain, perhaps even expand and intensify:
After all, we ultimately LOST the talented QB we'd long searched for, and West Virginia reaped the benefits instead directly BECAUSE he personally made the same mistake himself (though I would argue that a more aware, involved and attentive Coach and staff SHOULD have been out AHEAD of such possibilities--in other words, another symptom of MacEllwaine & Co.'s less-than-thorough or vigilant oversite).
Anyway, in fairness this SHOULD have serious and widening repercussions: I expect a whole lot of
"It isn't FAIR!!! The players just followed the orders and guidance of their trusted Coaches--who themselves just relied on the open and presumed accuracy of the companies producing the products, AND the federal RULES that are supposed to guide them!"
...Yes, WE felt the same way, said the same things at the time when it happened to US. Guess what: "Irrelevant."
It fell on deaf ears, far as the NCAA was concerned. If they approach this "fairly" and in the same way, more punishments, these to the whole Clemson program, may be in the offing. The fact that this happened on the very team that subsequently went on to win the next National Championship shouldn't have any bearing on how it is adjucated--but it might. This will be "interesting" to see played out.
