Gators Come Up Short Against Syracuse

The No. 11 Florida Gators (8-1) were competitive against the No. 6 Syracuse Orange last night in Tampa as part of the SEC/Big East Invitational, but ultimately the Gators were 13 points short of a victory - the final score was 85-73. Even though the Gators got their first loss of the season, it was still a good "moral victory" - if you believe in such a thing. Syracuse is a very good team and the Gators hung in there and didn't give up.

"I think these early games like this, when you play really good teams, the things you don't do well in a particular game generally get really, really exposed," Florida coach Billy Donovan said. "Some things that I think came out to light, transition defense, rebounding."

One of the bright points of the game is Florida hit 12 three-pointers. Boynton made five 3's, all in the second half. Walker was 4-9 from beyond the arc and Parsons added three 3s as well, giving the Gators a 3-point shootig percentage of 40% - compared to Syracuse's 23%.

Kenn Boynton was the Gators leading scorer with 20. Junior Chandler Parsons scored 19 and sophomore Erving Walker added 14 points and six assists.

Florida returns to action Dec. 19 when they travel to Sunrise, Fla., to take on Richmond in the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic. The game will be televised live on Sun Sports at 6:30 p.m.
