Gator quarterbacks since 2009

The Gators have been struggling since 2009 to get production at the quarterback position. John Walter Brantley IV has been the most productive. Jeff Driskel showed promise, and he doubled his four-year Florida production in only one year at Louisiana Tech. Will Grier was on the path to greatness at Florida, as shown by his Heisman-worthy numbers at West Virginia.

Feleipe Franks is the most improved of the bunch, although it is still early in the season. His passer rating this year through game 4 is 155.7. The Gators have not had a passer rating over 140 since Will Grier, and before that, Tim Tebow. Franks should surpass Driskel in overall production since Tebow by year's end, and he has a shot at having the second-most efficient season since Tebow, behind Grier.

I hate even TALKING about the QB position since Tebow: So many 5-star busts, busted 5-stars, self-destructors turning SEASON-destructors, then move elsewhere for the success you "woulda shoulda coulda" had here...and now, ANOTHER screw yourself and us to find a HEISMAN SOMEWHERE ELSE?
Look, I have come to see how this whole thing with Grier was as much a result of McEllwaine's disinterest, lack of involvement in his lockeroom in general and his players in particular that led directly TO (along with that whole Credit Card fiasco, and resulting flood of suspensions) Grier's mistakes AND eventual, inevitable decision to move on, but none of that soothes the soreness we all have to endure as a result (especially after all that came before--from Cam to Brantley to Driskel TO NOW...) Now, Mullens will do what he can with Franks, as long as he must--and as long as Franks himself continues in his net progress, that might not be so terrible at ALL. But there'll come a point where either Franks really does consistently "put it all together" on the field, or it's time to begin to give the "heir apparent" Mullens' full attention, his own onfield/in-game "faze-in" period of experience, to find out for sure: We have GOT to get, keep and groom that "right guy" at QB from here on, obviously, if we're gonna be truly, fully "BACK". And that's a big reason why MULLENS was/IS the "right guy" for us: It's his forte, among other important strengths.

Dan Mullen is the right guy. Tim Tebow's passer rating dropped from 172 to 164 when Mullen left. Nick Fitzgerald's passer rating is slowly dropping below the peak of 124 under Dan Mullen to 117. Feleipe Franks passer rating to this point, 155, is 30 points higher than his peak under McDeathThreats.

In 2002, the Utah QBs maxed out at a passer rating of 124 (Brett Elliott), with Alex Smith earning a rating of 8.4. When Mullen showed up, Alex Smith had ratings of 152 and 177 in 2003 and 2004.

Simply put, Mullen's coaching is going to improve QB efficiency by 20 to 30 points.
